Something like 7:30 - 5:00 and then a few hours every other weekend....but the parent would pay extra...so what is this..

Glorified babysitting....Just another way for parents NOT to have raise their kinds....just like daycare........okay rant over

Too many moms on the intraweb slutting it up, when they should be tending to their fuck trophies.

Sounds like a great idea. Take a look at todays youth. It couldnt hurt.

Ugh. Getting up at 6am is going to suck for these kids. Why are we pushing for 50 hour school weeks? Some kids have real jobs on top of that, do you really need a 60-70 hour work week when you are 17?

some parents have to work full time.

They better not ever start that stupid shit. My gf is a teacher and I look forward to the summers.

As far as test scores, who gives a shit honestly? Does it really matter if 12 year old Asian kids know more about algebra than 12 year old US kids? Will it matter when these kids are 30 and are raising families, making important decisions, and things like that? The fact that people care about something as petty, xenophobic and egotistic as whose kids can do better at basic comprehension of a handful of fields (there are 1000s of fields of knowledge) is a bigger problem than 12 year olds learning literature. It shows a lack of critical thinking. I'll take some dumbass who did bad on a junior high test who realizes it doesn't matter over some parent who actually cares about his kids outscoring the asians.

Besides, if you want to improve test scores something as simple as revamping the techniques of education and improving nutrition should be effective.

I remember hearing that at 4th grade Americans are at or close to the top, but from there it's a slow relative decline because they just don't push forward from there.

I remember doing essentially nothing in 5th, 7th and much of high school. All they'd have to do is keep moving the material forward. I did not learn algebra till 8th grade which was such a waste because they could have tought it in 5th grade easy.

i don't want those liberal sex fruit crazies teaching my kids the short times they had to go..

forget about all day

I didn't even know what calculus or physics were in high school.

Azns have usually moved on to calculus by the age of twelve.

Asians objectify their kids and treat them as toys and dolls they can mold to impress the neighbors.

Maybe we can force our women to develop eating disorders until they are all a size 2 and lord that over the Asians. That'll show em.

I've heard that too. I think it was in Tom Friedman's book the world is flat. In 4th grade we do well, by 8th we are so/so, by 12th grade we are near the bottom. I know Eastern European people have told me they learned physics and calculus in 5th grade.

I personally would never put my kids in day care...I gave up a great job to stay home and raise them.....

That's right, I had to read parts of that for an IE class.

And I was being conservative when I said algebra in 5th, I can picture that as early as 3rd grade, once kids can multiply and divid you can slip in some basic algebra, then after a year of that go into calc.

I think we wasted several years where we could multiply and divid but learned essentially nothing new.

They don't teach physics/calculus so early because of all the dumbasses who are struggling to do basic math.

I had physics/calc/chem in highschool, they wait till then because you can weed out the ones who can't handle it. It would have been nice to learn that stuff earlier, would have made college easier.

I really wish I could avoid before and after care... lately I don't do morning care and just get to work late... but have to rely on after care. I am a single mom and work from 8-5 sometimes early sometimes late so i need it. I HATE IT. I guess most (not you) are easy to look down on those whom use these services when not even knowing why. With out having this... I'd not be able to maintain my obligations to my job... there for not be able to provide for my kids,.

How nice for you. You may not know this, but not everyone can afford to do that. There's a big world out there, and it's not a mirror of you.

Additional hrs are a good idea. 6 a day is pretty short, and alot of that time is wasted in transition between classes.

that's definitely the ideal and most desireable situation for any parent. lucky for you and for your kids, you were able to do that. I didnt really have that option since I supported myself when my son was young. Nowadays, my son only gets after school care which is a martial arts program that also incorporates structured time for homework as well. It's expensive but a good program.

Here they do 7 hour days. I was always in the after school program for a couple hours after school, I love it. It was like a 2 hour gym class and good for socializing.

Friskey and Smurf......you guys are different, you have to use what you have to when you are a single mom..That does not count here sillies...

Oh and Jestro....5 people in my family and we live on $70,000.00 so no I'm not rolling in the dough...we do without so the kids are not in daycare....

Kids are as tired and as stressed as adults these days. This world moves much faster than it used to. Both parents need to work in order to just "make it".
Those long school hourse, in my opinion, are not healthy. Kids are not kids anymore.
GG, staying home to raise kids is a very noble thing to do. I would have LOVED for my Mom to be home. Both my parents worked 12 hr days 6 days a week. Back then there was no long school hours. They just hired someone to come in after school to make sure we were home safe and fed. Then we got to go outside and play until 5 or 6 and not sit in a classroom.
Life was easier back then.......

Is was...wasn't it! My mom was home with us until I was about 12 I think....I know it is not for everyone. But I want my kids to be influenced by family while young not the daycare....but like I said it works for me and my kids....

As much as my kids annoy me and I miss school while it is vacation and summer I would still not want them to be in school all day long and stuff..Just think, when you were in school would you want those hours??

Gymgurl said:
God no....they are to little to be gone that long and to be pushed that hard.
I fully agree.IMHO the 7 hours that they go now are a little too much! I think that the teachers have such high expectations for these kids. Last I checked they were kids not adults...They have managed to take out a lot of the activities through out the day as it is, what is next? Are they going to say that recess is not good enough?!? They cannot joke around they cannot stop mid work to make a joke or tell a friend some thing....If they do then the school blows it way out of proportion and hollars ADHD until they lose their voices! Yet they expect them to be able to pay attention and sit in a chair for more than 7 hours will minimal breaks through out the day..They are crazy to want to add more time to the school day, kids cannot and should not have to go through that..You are only a kid once, live it!

yes... My kids have a cush life... something I never had. I may be doing more bad then good sometimes, but I want them to enjoy their childhood.
