I work in a HUGE Corporation (30.000+ employees) in Frankfurt.

There are no siestas or 4 hour lunch breaks here, or in ANY of our customers/partners.

If anything, what you saw was a policy of a particular Corporation/Country ORganization/Department or individuals.

It's not common place at all.

as for Spain and Italy making siestas everyday... again wrong, in Spain, siestas will be taken on WEEKENDS... during the week, people work.

What they indeed do is take long lunch breaks, some 2 hours... then they work until 9:00 pm

A thing that is true indeed, just to add some real info to the thread, is that Italy will come to a complete stillstand during the entire month of August (pretty much like Germany as well). MOst of the people will take the entire month off... bakery shops, restaurants, businesses of all classes... everything is closed... even hotels.

...more an observation.

Recently came back from a stint in the islands. Any amount of young Brits, Euros, Japs, Koreans, Aussies, New Zealanders, Israelis etc all travelling the globe, but barely a Yank in sight?

Anyway, we know that most Americans seldom go abroad for anything other than short vacations, business trips or to slaughter humans in foreign lands.

Is that because they're not interested in experiencing or learning about the rest of the world? Is it that Americans believe traveling abroad isn't safe? Is it that everyone is so tied up in their lives to escape for an extended period?

Why do you think that is?

Slaughter humans in other lands. the rest of the world. I'm an isolationist. I agree we need to pull our military out of all of these contries. Trying to bring democracy to a bunch of barbarians in Iraq is the most foolish. Let all these fucking contries fend for themselves instead of relying on us for aid and military support. The rest of the world hates us so why the hell would I want to travel to Europe, Asia, ect.

What I mean by "let" means that it will be a huge argument. It's not worth arguing over so I buy American cars. Besides. He makes most the money and he works the hardest out of the two of us; so I let him decide what kind of cars we buy. He also is a Union worker and if were to ever drive my non-american car to work........... who knows what would happen to it.

You know ; I did not always have such a fear of flying! But now ; Its really bad. I'm not sure why?!?! It sucks because I want to go back to Sanibel Island and I dont have enough vacation time to drive down there and drive back.
