This is not a criticism of Americans...

I agree to disagree

the only Americans I see around are those with military ties. Americans will not move out somewhere else too willingly, they simply have no need for it.

This is very true, to a point. Both LH and I are out there due to the military if I'm correct. However many Americans are taking foreign jobs right now out of college. It is kind of the new trend for us to get big money, I have a lot of friend in this situation as of late. Honestly if we don't have to leave the best place we won't, sometime things draw us out though.

Just a guess on one of the many reasons Americans don't travel, home is awesome.

True, and a good way of looking at it. But not only because America is a nice place to live, also extremely diverse. If you don't like beaches, leave Cali and go to Montana, for example.

...more an observation.

Recently came back from a stint in the islands. Any amount of young Brits, Euros, Japs, Koreans, Aussies, New Zealanders, Israelis etc all travelling the globe, but barely a Yank in sight?

Anyway, we know that most Americans seldom go abroad for anything other than short vacations, business trips or to slaughter humans in foreign lands.

Is that because they're not interested in experiencing or learning about the rest of the world? Is it that Americans believe traveling abroad isn't safe? Is it that everyone is so tied up in their lives to escape for an extended period?

Why do you think that is?
travelling abroad is hella expensive

I'm from Wyoming and this is our motto but it actually applies to the rest of the Nation IMO.

hey SF what part of wyoming? I lived in Rock Springs for a while when I was a kid.

Sheridan, it is an amazing place.

I do wish more Americans would travel though. I think the worlds opinion of us would only be improved if we did. I think most of the time Americans are out of reach to foreigners and the ones they do meet may not be the best example of the true good of our nation.

If I could afford a couple of international vacations a year I'd do it, however after the house, the cars, the kids, the wife,...blah...blah...you get the idea. I could buy less house but...pfft. fuck that I need all that room I can get to avoid my cars, kids and wife.

true that

plus Americans don't get fifteen hundred weeks of vacation per year like foreigners typically do.

I have a passport and know how to use it!

It's all about time, money and a child that does not allow us to fill up that passport.

I have a list of places I WILL see when we retire and the kid's college is paid in full.
