Nice job, heavywear!!! Any tips on how to work that mental aspect of increasing the weight for a 1RM? I've been struggling with this for a while...any suggestions are welcome! You seem like you have your ducks in a row when it comes to that!
one thing that has helped me tremendously has been doing some heavy overload training. That means static holds for benches and walkouts, 1/4 squats with 120 to 140% of my current max. Your training weights just dont feel like much over time after overloading regularly.
sometimes its kind of embarrassing cause you get gym members hollering for you and its just a walkout. When I stand there for my deep breath before racking guys are yelling "C'mon - one good one. You got it!" And then I have to tell them I was just feeling it. Nice to have the support though...
I also believe that you have to see yourself completing the lift. all day I was thinking about 520 (was a PR) Every time I got up from my desk at work I had 520 on my back ('cept nobody could see it...haha)
anyways, Im sure others can add to this and hope this helps...go get em
Yes I must admit the walkouts are key. The other week someone had left way more than I was going to squat on the bar so I got under it just to see how it felt. Once I got to my work sets they felt sooooo light.
Thanks for the advice! I will definitely have to try that here soon! I have always struggled with the mental aspect, but I do agree when you when you say that visualing yourself completing the lift helps out a lot. I have a contest coming up in 2 weeks and I am really trying to do a lot of visualizing! Thanks again!
