Tanning beds and peeling

If you burned, you will peel, you've killed a layer of skin. Just continue to moisturize. Once you tan a few more times you won't burn anymore and you won't have to worry about peeling or burning if you keep it up weekly.

Sidenote on tanning... be careful girls! I thought I was fine tanning but after 2 yrs. of tanning I spotted a new mole in an area that never got sun before. Within one day my husband noticed it too. Well, a few months later I finally went to the dermatologist and had a biopsy done and it came back pre-cancerous (meaning it had changing cells and if left alone it would become cancer). I had it removed 4 weeks ago and now have a 1 inch scar as a reminder. The dermatologist said that indoor tanning is absolutely not safe. I suggest that if you are going to tan, please get your skin checked every 6 months by a dermatologist so that if anything does start, you can catch it before it's too late. In the future the only tanning I'll be doing is the spray on tan.

And another cautionary note. Remember everybody that your skin only releases melanin in an attempt to protect itself from further damage from UV radiation so any visible tan at all means you've already done some degree of harm to your skin.

So please tan in moderatation. Tans are temporary but premature aging of the skin is forever. :)

Ain't that the truth! I'll be tanning in the back yard, carefully, starting fairly soon (I like to start while the sun is still somewhat weak, using an 8 SPF). I do a fair amount of gardening, so I need a little bit of a basetan so that I don't have to be super careful with the sunscreen once the summer gets here.

I've found aloe gel to be the best thing when I get sun...whether or not I've actually burned.

Well I bought some vitamin E and it seems to be helping. Im planning on going to the tanning bed a few more times before summertime. I have Crohns disease and i have an infusion "remicade" to keep it in remission. That could have something to do with it, but Ive been having the infusion for over 2 years and I never burned before. I dont know. Ill be more careful and not in such a rush to get dark and tan:) Thanks girls

You probably have a type II skin which makes it very difficult. Vitamin E moisturizer helps. What kind of tanning bed is it ?

Well theres where I screwed up...i went to the hottest bed...with the hottest lights....I cant think of the name....i went to it the first time, I should ahve started out with the regular ones....I never burn so I figured I wouldnt this time..but I did...i want to say....Sun Ray?
But Im not for sure..they have 3 diff levels of tanning beds there, and I of course like a dummy went to the 3rd level lol....and I usually tan using the 2nd level bed..That was my biggest mistake
