strongman events only will it work

I see the discussion going towards this particular question:

"What can I do in my training that will provide carry over to strongman?"

Correct?

I see Oly-lifting (cleans would be helpful in tire flipping, for example), strong compounds (bench, deads, squats) and conditioning work. Besides sport specificity type training (event work).

Basically, I look at strongman training this way: trying to improve my performance. ANYTHING that will improve my performance, I will train. Be it strength, speed, explosiveness.

BUT I don't believe you can do it ALL in one week. Which is why I train in weekly cycles; each week concentrates on a key area of performance. And I recently read that Juoko Ahola does the same thing. He sets one week aside for event training and one week for weights.

I was thinking that too...

I asked a guy at clints contest who is pretty much undefeated as a 200lber what he does for a living and he does some sort of manual labor

most of the best deadlifters (lb for lb) from those weird countries just chop and lift trees all day long

Manual labor. That would be the only reason I can think of that helped me on saturday. I have been doing grunt work my whole life!

and

Maybe some of that food I ate at Ryans.

hammer...if there was a buffet as good as ryans around here...i would be 300lbs man

that food was SO good...seriously

old country is nothing compared to it

I think Brad can pull around 500 maybe...not sure.

He is an Arborist...not a logger:)

The 58 year old man who kept moving around the duck walk implement and picking up the weights on the Hercules Hold...is an Arborist too:)
