Straight liquid egg whites ok?

I've heard you don't get the full protein amount if you don't cook it, but liquid egg whites are cheap as hell and pasteurized. Can I simply drink them straight for extra protein? I used to do this back in college and it seemed to work fine. K for help and experiences!!

P.S. I realize this isn't the diet board, but NObody goes there and I wanted to get a few answers. I apologize for this and a mod can move it soon, just let me get a few answers. The stuff is cheap as hell, tastes fine, and is slow-digesting high-quality animal protein!

Rocky did it

I've never tried that, but it's funny you should post about protein....I just went up to 7-11 to get a coffee, and when I got home, I set it on the counter next to a tub of chocolate whey protein. The gears began to turn.

I threw a scoop into the coffee, mixed it up and it actually tastes pretty good!!

Rocky used raw eggs... salmonella risk and TONS of fat and cholesterol. Liquid egg whites, cheap as hell, pasteurized, no fat or cholesterol... sounds good to me?

^^^Bump Bump

I'd be very interested to know... I eat 10 egg whites every morning but always cook them... Would save me 15 minutes every single day...

I wonder if there is a way to home pasteurize egg whites quickly.

A guy i know he buy's the egg whites that come in those gallon jugs with the pump and puts them in his protein shake every morning and say's it's better than cooking them. He smells like ass though after a couple hours in the sun. He swears by that stuff though.

yeah theres companies online that will ship you egg whites in bulk, do a search on google they have a lot of info on their pages,

If you're buying the liquid egg whites you can drink them straight. I sometimes add a lil to my shakes. lana's egg whites are a good brand. www.lanaseggwhites.com

If they are pasteurised then there shouldn't be a problem. The problem is only in raw egg whites as they contain a protein called Avidin which binds with Biotin and creates a Biotin deficiency if you use alot of raw egg whites. A biotin deficiency then interferes with protein metabolism and the complete release of food energy. The heating process breaks down the avidin.

Thanks a ton guys, Kian especially! Looks like I found a new, cheap protein source. 1 cup of egg whites has 24g's of slower-digesting proteins in it, I better get to Sam's Club and stock up, it's time to get lean AND huge! :D

I did a couple of years Fed time (federal prison) back in 02, its where I first got off recreational drugs and started weight training. I worked in the kitchen with a bunch of weight lifters and protein sources were sometimes hard to come by. One thing we always had was eggs, so we would take about 200 whites and maybe 50 - 100 yolks, mix in some vanilla extract, milk, and cinnamon and whip it till smooth. We did this every day for over a year, I only drank about 20 eggs worth a day but some of the guys were closer to 50, this is everyday. I grew like crazy the whole time I was there and so did everyone else. My bunkie Ret, was about 5'11, he went from 210 to over 250 in the time I knew him, he was drinking 50+ a day. So to answer your question, I dont think drinking eggs will deprive you any of their mass building potencial, it certainly worked well for us. The eggs we used were not pasterized, couple of us got sick, myself included, and it really sucked. The things we'll do to get our protein when in a pinch.

one other thing, the guys in prison have no supplements, no AAS, poor medical care, and they have to hustle everyday just to get a halfway decent calorie/protiein food source, but despite all this, the strongest guys Ive ever worked out with were in prison. I had never worked out before going to Club Fed but when I got out and saw how weak everyone at my gym was I was shocked. Not sure why this is just pointing it out. If you couldnt, and I couldnt, bench over 400 you would get laughed off the weight pile, when I left, over a year ago, that was the last time I saw anyone go under 4+ plates.

Salmonella is on the egg shell, not in the egg itself.
You can actually wash the egg (gently) or wipe it with an alcohol swab, wash your hands ,crack it open and have a salmonella free egg.

If it's in a can ,pasteurized , it also saves cleaning time.
