Speed and Agility?

What do you mean by resources? Drills? Speed specific excercies? lifts? gear? Running speed? What are you doing that you need speed?

like any online resources that may have some different excercises, like plyometrix or specific training excercises to increase explosiveness and speed?? Running speed for football.

I know of a few,

Squats done explosively will help many off the block if they are a sprinter or out of a 3 point stance in football.

Up hill running will help you lengthen your stride by putting resistance on the last pull through motion of your legs.

High knees will help with agility since raiing your feet helps you move easier around objects...

A really weird one in downhill running. This excercise teaches your body to move it legs fastewr since your feet need to keep up with your body or you fall flat on your face.

Try water treading/running and some sprints with a parachute. Box movements help a lot too.

Get a book called Sport Speed - great resource.

For agility look at some of Fred Hatfield's books for pointers.

Off course you need your foundation strength and your plyometrics and power movements like jump snatches (see my vert leap thread), then for sprinting speed read the Sport-Speed book. Complete training course in it is great. For agility you just need to do drills, like cone runs, and certain plyometric bounding. Basicly you just do lots of short rapid direction changes. Jump around with dumbells etc

lots of work

Thanks guys :)

I played tailback in college, but this is for a friend of mine who plays fullback. I know alot of the basic excercises for speed and strenght but I'm lookin to help set him up with a program to drop his 40, 3/10 of a second. He runs a 5.2 and I think with some weight loss and some good training he could easily get to a 4.9 He's 6 ft 245 he wants to get to around 225.
