Should a man have a say in whether his wife or girlfriend has an abortion?

I'm speaking in general too.

Could you imagine someone forcing you to kill your fetus because the daddy doesn't want it -- strapping you down on a table and performing a painful medical procedure on you to kill your baby. I would commit suicide afterward. That would be worse than rape.

FG, I wasn't trying to get pregnant, but I am happy that I am now.
Something similar to that actually happened to my mother. Fucked her up for life.

OMG that's horrible.

The only thing comparable are those poor woman that have to carry a dead baby to term, deliver and them bury their dead infant.

Im glad we are all on the same page here..lol
peter pan syndrome..that is pretty funny

and I didnt realize i was utilizing any degrading terms towward women considering the terms towards men were deadbeat, dicks, losers, ect..

bottom line, it is the womans choice to get pregnant, there is NO argument to that...period

some men want to make a baby then freak out after they get their significant other pregnant. also some women don't choose to get pregnant. if they wanted to be pregnant then some of them wouldn't choose abortion

I agree with all of that
but at the same time it is ALWAYS the womans choice to first get pregnant( having sex w/o proper birth control is basically the same thing as wanting to get pregnant, it is a loaded gun analogy). and it is ALWAYS the womans choice to remain pregnant. there can be no argument to that. we all have free will, it is how we exercise it that matters

So, a man has no choice in having sex or using birth control too?

Okay, if both are equally responsible and both don't agree on what to do, what should be done? He gets to walk away and not take any financial responsibility even though he was equally responsible in creating the child? or he gets to strap her down and kill the fetus? Or, he can make her give the baby away? What is your solution?

Did it ever occur to you that a baby is involved and maybe your needs don't always come first? Just a novel thought.

OR... what if you both agree on what to do prior to childs birth and then the father decides to not uphold on his end? why is it easy for a man to just walk away?

i agree. Each decided to have sex knowing full well that sex can create children. Now that a baby is on the way or is already born, both should do their best to be the best parent they can be.

Once you created a little child, regardless of the circumstances, it is time to be bigger than just your immediate needs and wants and love that baby.

When this thread was last done, I think in '04, I believe I was the only woman to support the father's right to prevent the mother from having an abortion.

Assuming the identity of the father is not in doubt I think he should be able to prevent an abortion from occuring, but not force one. Having the ability to "opt out" of child support if he disagrees with the birth is a very sticky issue about which I cant take a position.

Regarding the "it's my body, my choice" refrain so often heard from pro-choice activists to legitimize their right to be the sole decision maker in whether or not an abortion occurs, I can only point out that in fact it is not the mother's body. It's someone's else's body that is temporarily fully dependent on the mother's body as it's own body develops. This is a new person, not a tumor.
