Shirted up for first time....

here's how it went...
Bench Press 1 10 45
1 * 6 95
1 * 1 135 Pause
1 * 1 165 Pause
1 * 1 175 Pause
1 * 1 190 Shirt on, blew it up quick , No pause, just getting a feeling for the shirt
3 * 0 200 Mental barrier, missed horribly… go it more than halfway up and then just sucked

i know i have the strength to get 200... but its a mental barrier... i also used no leg drive in my bench as i always got distracted by the tingling sensation of the shirt digging into my arm pits.

Next week i'll nail it. I just need help right in the middle of the bench. What causes that place to just screw me over? is it triceps?
 
actually now that i think about it, i did a lot of things wrong...
1) I didnt use leg drive
2) I concentrated too much on shirt
3) I Didnt tense up my whole body
4) I sucked horribly :)
 
you'll get it bro, I'm new to them as well, I've only shirted up twice, tomorrow will be number 3
I really know what the "groove" is now!

i think for the contest coming up for me im just going to hammer my triceps, w/ close grip, some board presses, and possibly decline.. i only have 5 more ME workouts left... i hope to hit 200 at the contest... its that damn mental barrier thats holding my back!
 
ok well i was bored before so i scoured around my basement, found a long 2 x 4, and cut out 5 boards.. now i can use them for board presses!
 
Remember that when you add your equipment in...you have to learn how to use it properly. That takes time.

You should really think about taping your workouts so that you can watch them later to see your mistakes...

when i bench a weight i don't know if i can get or not, i always just stare at the bar. i never pay attention to the plates. also, i squeeze the bar as hard as i can. for some reason this has helped me alot. sometimes looking at multiple plates can get your mind doing strange things. if the mental isn't there you might as well not even try it. i have bombed on weights i know i could get and smoked weights i know should crush me. it was just a mind game.
 
All i can say is this. You see personanlly that a shirt doesnt do the work for you 100%. You must learn it. Period. It takes practice. Everytime you do it now you will get better and better each time out. Just remeber don tfigh tthe shirt. Let the weight go were it must, not were you want it. You can move it a tad but the shirt hasa groove and you must work with it in it. Your feeling th eshirt!
 
thanks everyone.. i probaly wont be shirting for another 2 weeks or so, just cause i dont wanna shirt up too much before the contest.

PLJay, IRBD sent me the program you made up for him, so i think i may try that out in a little while
