Sciatic Pain When DLing - This is F'ed Up!

Valium, muscle relaxer, strong anti-inflammatories, did 30 sets of home made reverse hypers yesterday. They help the most.

well, i got two prescript anti-inflamatories and a muscle relaxer.

I gotta ask b-fold, are those meds for the sciatica or just to stay loose and keep up with the stress from strongman? do you take em year round?

you think it could be limiting progress or does it come with the territory in that sport?

I have a fairly serious stomach disease where most foods go straight through me and come out bloody. So I've been on a lot of different meds for a few years. The high doses of cortisone that I've taken really effect me mentally so I've taken valium and roofies (both very legal here) to help with anxiety and sleep related problems from that.

I've taken xanax to help deal with extreme cases of painful diarrhea.

Now, the muscle relaxer (which has no sedation effect) and the valium (very very very low dose, especially for my body weight) are being used to try and get all of the muscles to relax. And I have to be careful with any kind of anti-inflammatories because they tend to cause the possibility of internal bleeding.

I do NOT take anything before training except for icy-hot, ben gay type of creams and I'll use my e-stim machine. If I can't get loose through walking, reverse hypers, pull throughs, stretching...then I don't need to be training. I've taken so many meds over the last few years (couple years ago I was on 16 diff meds a day) that I just hate taking anything anymore.

Strongman, like any sport that involved athletic performance or gym work, is really based on pre-hab more than anything. Protect yourself so that you don't have to go to re-hab. Train your abs, rear delts, low back, stretch, hips, etc...as the list goes on.

But I know A LOT of athletes that use meth, other amphetamines, cocaine, codeine, morphine, and a lot of stuff that I have no idea what it is on a very regular basis. Some of them are good athletes...some are just slightly average maybe.

If anyone has ANY questions about ANYTHING...I will be happy to answer honestly and openly about everything. Over the last few years I think that I've used everything that you can imagine, and with my doctors watching and making suggestions.

For that reason and the way you workout i admire you bro!

blazzer,

why not do what all the older dudes at my gym, get ridiclulously shredded. still train, but back off the killer routines, workout for look, and crush shit. all the muscle showing, the 50 plus crowd that i train with look sick. alittle gh and test year round, they look tight. and its alittle gh, like 2iu a day and like 250mg test a week. nothing crazy.

I have honestly thought about that. But, there is still that thing that got in my head so many years ago - you can never load the bar heavy enough. I keep seeing guys like Louis Simmons and Dave Tate going at it. Hell, Mark Felix is 44 and still a SERIOUS strongman competitor (although I am no where near 44).

I'm sure I'll get to the point though where I will have to back off though. It is just a really tough pill to swallow. While I am no where in their league, I can sort of sympathize with guys like Brett Favre and Michael Jordan.

I am, however, moving into coaching so that by itself may give me some of what I need to allow me to slow it down.

seriously, i know alot, at least 10 guys, 50 and up, all who had pl or bbing backgrounds for 30+ years. they have changed gears, still get to lift hard and look great. you arent conceeding anything, "smarter not harder" is the approach. you have the base to look like a beast at your age. fuck the heavy shit, go lean. you will like the change of pace. i guarantee it. think longevity. id rather train till i cant then train till i force my body to not allow me. that would disasterous for me. as long as you can train, thats what matters.

You make a very good and reasonable point.

Funny. My wife has said many of the same things. :)

But as long as you CAN train, and train as hard as you can...why not just train freaking hard and let the cards fall where they may?

Odd Haugden is 56+...

For fucks sake

Before long you're gonna be posting threads like, "Hey guys, Critique my Rear Glute Spread." and "Do these posing trunks look good with my tan?".

lol

The color of the trunks don't matter as much as the tint in the airbrush from the spray tan booth.
