I think that a lot of the racism that is not overt comes from ppl that don't know a lot of minorities and suffer from the "uncomfortable feeling" of being around someone that is different. Hey Ryan, join the ACLU. I'm a member. You can sign up over the net and they will send you messages about current legislation. They even have it set up where you can contact your congressman about voting on certain bills. There is a bill about to be introduced regarding racial profiling by the police. I sent a fax to my representatives in congress and one of them even wrote back to me.

Maybe the clerks weren't eyeballing your friend...maybe your friend (who has a lifetime of experience with these things) didn't feel, for whatever reason, that their behavior warranted a reaction...

in this day and age, it's become heretical to even DISCUSS issues with regards to race and how they relate to cold, hard facts.

why has there been only one white starting cornerback(the most speed-reliant position) in the nfl in the last ten years? why do we never see a starting white halfback? why are the sprint events TOTALLY dominated by black athletes? whenever there's any attempt to discuss these things, the discussion is closed due to pc reasons...once you start going down that slope of racial differences, (where in this case blacks measure superior) you must address the racial differences in other areas: IQ or other intelligence measurements being a biggie. i'm not gonna' sit here and say blacks are less intelligent genetically than whites or asians: i don't claim to be an expert on the subject and certainly am not capable of analyzing the impact environment plays in intelligence. it just galls me than any attempt to intelligently discuss such issues, to rationally analyze the numbers, is shot down immediately as being "racist".

there are no "out" gays in professional sports...sure, there are many societal reasons which could explain this. yet, why is it wrong to wonder/study the fact that gay men MAY on average be more "feminine", less athletic genetically than their straight counterparts? being gay and observing many gays, i personally suspect that to be the case.

the fact of the matter is that blacks are ON AVERAGE, poorer (and a liberal like you would be the first to admit that poverty is the reason many resort to thievery), they probably do (for whatever reason!) commit more crimes... so why is it wrong for a shop owner to keep an eye on someone from a group that seems to statistically have a better chance of stealing from him????

I have a friend, his name is Phil...He is black. He was raised by French people of Chinese descent, and therefore(not a racist remark) he speaks proper english, dresses is "normal" clothing, and most of all, was never told that he is a victim, he was never told that the white man hates him, and most of all, was never ever told that because he is black and that he has been opressed for so long, that he deserves a free ride! .. You do not think, because you're too busy "feeling." I cant argue with someone who doesnt think, but lets their emotions take over thair thought process. It is a completely lost cause.

Your friend has been brainwashed. Why doesn't he talk to Rosa Parks who was denied a seat on a bus just some 30 years ago? Why doesn't he talk to Diallo, shot over 40 times? It's been documented PLENTY of times ryan, alot of black people get free rides because of their skin color, and were not nearly up to the qualifications that were expected of other applicants. Companies are just afraid NOT to hire black people because they'll have the NAACP filing suit against them for not having enough blacks on their staff. There should be no affirmative action, people who review applications should not know the color of the applicant, EVERYTHING should be based on your qualifications to handle the job.

Exactly true, employers shouldn't need to know the race of potential employee's, just qualifications for the job. I feel that affirmitive action is just legalized racism which is popular. I understand there were times when blacks and other minorities were very oppressed and the NAACP needed to be aggressive to help out their people, but times are very differant now and the aggressiveness should not be to the extent where a new small businessman hires 4 people and the first thing he thinks of is oh I better make sure 2 of them are black so I dont get my ass sued right from the get go..viewpoints on this topic vary a lot especially due to location and where you live, my point of view is this, where I live, me being italian I am the minority, there are far more blacks and puerto ricans than italians or caucasions. many times puerto ricans will start speaking spanish to me out of the blue, and when I tell them im not spanish, the attitude seems to be oh my mistake, fuck you then. right now I work in corrections and am currently trying to get in a better facility for about double the pay, my best friend james, who is black is also trying to get in, we both just took the test last tuesday and he was given 5 extra points for being black, while I received 3 extra points for serving my nation for 4 years and busting my ass. I have a serious problem with this...especially when on a few occassions I got to be called nice names by the local civilians like baby killing murdering motherfucker... and even if I hadn't served then this means he was 5 pts ahead of me still, yet IM the minority here, and we both went through the same horrible public school that was actually condemned..lol so its not like o well he is white and has a better shot yada yada..my friend also feels the same way on this, hell he even joked and said I should tell them im half black so I can get 2.5 pts so it would be fair. anyways this isnt a topic I get into much as there is usually super ignorant posts involved, but the point is affirmative action is a very bad idea.
