r-ala and hunger

Has anyone else noticed that R-ala increases appetite?? For instance I take thre r-ala tabs then eat a baked potato with chicken. Fill myself up 30 mins later am starving again - this did not seem to hapen as much on regular ALA

Interesting, I'm noticing the exact opposite effect.

How much R-ALA are you using with that particular meal? You could be making yourself slightly hypo which would increase hunger.

I don't notice any effect on appetite. I take 100mg for every 30 to 50 grams of carbs that I'll be indulging in.

Only side effect I've noticed is that my piss smells funny, kinda like it does after eating asparagus.

I am taking about 3 caps with teh larger carb meals like Pizza, I am sure it is really making me more hungry, I already have a big appettite but R-ala makes me feel like I could eat all day

Are you dieting? Were you doing a refeed? I find if I'm in a depleted state and I refeed (or carb load), I feel like I can eat all day - regardless of whether or not I'm using R-ALA. I have to make sure I'm watching kcals, or a refeed can definitely get out of control.

I have been trying to diet, eating carbs just around my workouts, some days droppping to really low carbs - on re-feed days I fall into that very same trap......maybe I am just wrong on this one, the r-ala may not have the effect.

What you are probably feeling is the effect of eating the potato. You eat the potato, your body breaks it down into sugar, insulin gets released to deal with the sugar, blood sugar drops and this signals the hunger center in your brain that you need food.

You'd probably do better with the hunger if you kept your blood sugar more stable with a lower GI carb.

BTW, I take R-ALA and I don't feel the hunger you are talking about. I do however get pretty bad headaches occasionally that disappear if I stop taking R-ALA.

I have this problem with ALA too, at least I did for the first week or two that I was taking it. I put it down to hypoglycemia since I was also getting headaches and dehydration. My body seemed to adapt eventually, but I also think ALA gave me rebound HYPERglycemia when I stopped taking it. Everyone's different and if it doesn't work for you, then stop taking it. Might pay to get some blood glucose test strips and see what's happening to your blood sugar with and without the ALA.
