Quick question on fruits

How bad are fruits for cutting? I dont eat them all the time but if im starving and its before a workout ill have a handfull of blueberries or a peach or something, never after a workout though. Also are fruits complex or simple sugars? Or am i totally out to lunch and they are niether im a little confused.

They are usually highly glycemic, simple sugars. They make great carb sources as part of your post workout shake ... they aren't bad as a pre-workout energy source either and otherwise should probably be stayed away from while cutting, certainly not eaten after the early afternoon unless it is as a workout bookend.

So its ok to use them as a carb source in a post workout shake? I was under the impression they weren't that great post workout? If so what are the better fruits to use post workout?
Thanks

The only controversial one is bananas, although I have used banana and some people definitely like using bananas. I like to use frozen packages of fruit... my favorite being mixed berries (straw, blue, rasp and one other i think boysen), I can't really think of anything on the do not use list.

If it comes from nature, it's usually OK to use in a clean, whole food diet.

Berries, apple, peaches, grapefruit all have a pretty low effect on blood sugar, pineapple, banana, cantalope, have a medium effect.

The less ripe the fruit is the lower the gi value is as well.

I personally have no problems with fruit, just keep in mind the quantity and the total carbs you're eating per meal. Some people believe you can only eat them in the AM - others only after a w/o - other no fruit whatsoever.

Everyone's different - I can't do oats or dairy.

I would say try it and see what your results show.

I do this too!! Peaches are also good mixed up in Vanilla protein powder.....YUM!!

Fruit is ok post-workout as you want carbs + protein PWO.....I personally think fruits are ok and good for you!

Blueberries, strawberries, apples, grapefruit are ok for cutting.. but make sure to keep to 1-2 serving a day!!!

i like the mixed berries and a banana in a post workout shake. your muscles can better utilize the sugars in the fruit post workout. i usually throw and apple in during the day if im on the run, much better than a drive thru.
