I seriously think that you need to work out longer. If you want to get to 250, you need more time in the gym before you hit the gear or it will be that much more harder to reach 250. If you get as far as you can first, you won't be as reliant on gear to meet your goals. It will be a good tool and a great help when the time is right, but if you start too soon, it's going to become a crutch and you won't be able to make any decent gains or sustain them without gear. I honestly thing that a lot of the "hard gainers" are people who started gear too soon.
