Played with speed squats tonight.

Experimented with speed squats tonight. I think I like them. Felt a good burn in my quads, but I think it was a little light (I did 10 sets of 2 reps with 155, with 25-30 seconds rest in between each set.) My explosiveness came too easy I think. Then again, I'm not sure of my max on squats, so I may have done it a little light. I'm estimating my max at about 305, but it may be more. Maybe I'll test it in the upcoming weeks.

Anyone have any input? Never did these and would like to learn more.
 
better to be too light than heavy, just push em up as fast as you can, eccentric should be brisk but controlled

And it's OK to pause at the top for a breather to make sure every rep is focused

CCJ said it best. I wanted to add that we use AROUND 60% of our max without bands or chains, and closer to 40% with bands and chains. Unless we're in a circa max phase preparing for a comp, we really just go by feel. Some days you're just faster than others, and you do what you can to make sure you're safely working for speed, not max effort.
