Overheads before flats...

I don't have a place to do them seated (with back support) anyway. I must do them standing.

Today I did the following: (been sick for 2 weeks, fever, cold, runny nose, etc...weak!!!!)

Log Clean and press
several warm ups
190 x 5
210 x 5
255 x 2 (cleaning a 6" log is much harder than an 8" like I have at home)

Flat Bench Press (pinky on power rings)
135 x 10
225 x 5
315 x 1 (3 second pause on chest)
365 x 1 (1-2 second pause on chest)

Incline Bench Press (pinky on power rings)
225 x 10

Incline Tate Presses
50's x 8
30's x 8 x 2 sets

Dbell Cleans (for rotators)
10's x 15 x 2 sets

That was it. I moved very quickly through my workout after the log clean and press because Night Fly and I were running late and both very sick!!! Yuck!!!!

You ever think about trying to use the conjugate method with strongman implements for your overhead training? Or even just doing various overhead max stuff followed by a speed day?

I could see

Standing, seated DB and BB presses
DB and BB cleans
push presses
snatches

Log presses
Log Cleans
Stone presses
Car Presses HEHE

I am going to start making my first stone next weekend WOOHOO! Tomorrow I am going up to the in-laws cabing to gather boulders for their shoreline. They think I'm crazy, I'm always bugging em "So when are we going stone hunting?" Here Dad and his brother sit and have a beer whilst I practice loading rocks into the truck. Gotta go eat now.

That would be interesting to try speed military presses like speed benches. I wonder it it would work for miitaries like it does for bench presses. You would have to lean your head back so you woldnt risk bashing yourself in the face doing militaries though

I did overhead log presses for speed work for a while and only ended up with a slight twinge in my shoulders. The theory behind doing 3's in the flat bench press is that it takes about that long do to a single in a contest. Well...It shouldn't take long to do a max weight in the log clean and press...

You think I should do some singles only on overheads?

I know of several other people who did overheads for speed work and they all had the same problem...shoulders hurt.

I feel pretty good after yesterday's workout as posted above...

Any other thoughts?

for your style of training this is a good idea bfold. most on this board arent willing to give away any strength for the EGO lift and chest development is probably more important than delt for most. I would go for it though, priority training...

I suppose all that volume from speed work wore down the shoulders HUH? I'd try some singles, why not? Since alot of overhead pressing comes from tri's as well, why not try singles with primarily overhead movements, and speed work on flat just to keep priming the nervous system.

How is your overall shoulder health? I know you do face pulls, have you been doing cuban presses, snatches, and other rotator work?

Since I have been starting this type of training, I have always done my overhead presses first. My bench has done nothing but go up. I really don't think that it will affect your bench numbers at all....but with your contests, you shouldn't be worrying about that number at all! It does nothing to help you with strongman...you know that! :)

i would alternate the three every workout. one day do flat military, incline next time do miltary incline flat........you get the picture i think this evens out everything
