When returning into sports, how much time does it take someone to start noticing improvements in muscle mass? Are there any particular parts of the body that will grow the fastest? On what would you focus the most when making the return?
 
That depends a lot on each person, and individual experience. Definitely, if you practiced a lot of sports previously, muscle memory will allow you to gain muscle mass much faster than it was before. But yet again – it is very hard to predict.


As per the body parts to train, I would do all-round training for a few weeks, in order to get the entire body used to training again without putting it under too much stress.
 
I would do the 5x5 programm - squats, deadlifts, bench presses, pushups, overhead presses...and you could add there some rows....
