Opinions about "low fat" food

*Bunny* said:
With all the low carb crap out there you'd think this wouldn't be the case, no?

Huge backlash concerning low carbs right now...media assumes LOW carb is ZERO carb...

Its a big fat marketing spin that makes it sound like its better. The above points are valid, but if you are down to counting the few extra cals / carbs / fats and choosing a "low fat" / "low sugar" / "low carb" artificially altered product, you are introducing additionally processed food into your diet. Makes you wonder if the reduction in *whatever* gives you an edge or it is balanced out by the impact of the processing.

Generally speaking, if your diet is clean and on track, you should have plenty of room for your scheduled cheat / reward meal / day to accommodate whateve it is you crave.

Thanks for all the replys!!!

I think I'm a carb addict. I tried the Atkins diet and had a migrian the whole time until I eventually fainted. When I do'nt eat them I feel sick.
I usually eat something like this

Morning : 3-4 egg whites
1 piece of toast
1 tbs of low fat cheese whiz (i dunno why but love that stuff)
1 fruit, usually pear or orange

Afternoon: Salad which Chicken and fat free dressing
or Tuna sandwhich made with mustard
Some veggies

Dinner: I always screw up here! But recently learned SOME portion control, ie: meat the size of the palm of your hand
usually chicken
1-1 1/2 cups of veggies
glass of milk

Snacks throughout the day aren't planned. When I do snack, its usually a piece of fruit, carrot or celery sticks, or sometimes fat free pudding or an ice cream sandwhich.
I drink lots of water, but also tend to drink a lot of coffee (4-6 a day.) I use sweetner and milk in the coffee, and I also drink a lot of diet coke. I'm really quit clueless when it comes to my diet, so again, ANY advice is welcome! I'd love to look even remotely close to the girls on this board. Two years ago I was a size 7.... I don't wanna admit this... but after a very stressful year with a lot of losses I ate myself to a 14 :worried: . I'm back down to about a 10, but people still never fail to tell me how much bigger I am and it KILLS ME, lol. Under all the lard I have a lot of muscle, but you just can't see it anymore.

Hey girl -- here's a great place to start - look at the stickies at the top of the board, particularly the "Are you new to the EF Ladies Board - START HERE" http://www.elitefitness.com/forum/showthread.php?t=388278

One of the best & easiest things to do is put today's (or a typical day's) meals into a food counts program like www.fitday.com (Its free!) so you can see what you are *REALLY* eating. If you list out what you eat to someone, they may say you are eating too much, too little, the wrong stuff, whatever. But if you have the actual portion sizes and details of carbs, fats, proteins & calories in front of you, you can start talking with some quantifiable numbers. You can evaluate if you are eating the right things, the right amounts, the right combinations relative to your current size / weight / bodyfat % and also start adjusting your meals to meet your goals. It is extremely enlightening, and starts to help illustrate some of the counterintuitive things about nutrition and the misconceptions that the general populous take as fact.

Armed with this you can start setting reasonable and attainable goals for yourself and then monitor your progress on a day to day basis instead of getting caught up in ridiculous goals like "I need to lose 20 lbs in 2 weeks". It takes a bit of effort to do the research, understand the basic approaches and put together a food & training plan that fits your lifestyle and allows you to establish simple habits like preparing clean meals and eating them at regular intervals instead of sort of going as you get the urge to munch. That's when you start to get a distorted view of what & how much you are really eating, and then all of a sudden you are trying to figure out how you put on that extra weight and feel bad about yourself because of it.

No point to that -- education & knowledge are power and it is all here for you to acquire! Plus there's lots of ladies here who have gone thru the same process to arrive at where they are at in their quest for a fitness lifestyle, can give good advice from the same experiences, have already asked the same questions and have "been there, done that" with the joys and the frustrations of trying to live the fitness lifestyle.

Sassy,

Thank you SO much for all the info and that website. I have been looking for something exactly like that, I've already written a journal and started looking up foods. Apparently, I definately eat too many carbs, lol. Why do they have to be so tasty?
