Olympic Lifting Update & PR's from Gladi

Was gettin frustrated - lifts stagnant (& LOW compared to my previous style of lifting) b/c I was concentrating on form. Was reaaaallly missing my old workouts.

Went by invite to train with a team mate at his gym 1.5 hour north. He also recently did a state strongman competition, & has been doing competitive OL for a while.

WOOO EEE! What fun!!!! He helped me SO much with form, got me over a few hurdles, & had me doing singles instead of sets of 3 of 5.

Clean (from the hang) - 45K = 100# <<A PR, but never tried a single before>>
Squat (deep deep DEEP -> ATF) 70K = 150# for a single
:D

We gradually built up the squats & the first time I tried the 70K I didn't make it. Then he made me believe he had lowered the weight -but hadn't- & I got it up!

YEEAAHH! Lifting is fun again. Coach says to me the next day, "You're getting better," when he saw my power snatches. Man this stuff rocks.

Oh yea - & my sister once said that this board "has had a profound impact on her life." I would not be doing OL if it weren't for this board, so I can, without a doubt, say the same. :)

Congrats on the PR's Gladiola....keep up the good work.

I'm sure the board helped, but let me point out another that deserves MOST of the credit:

It was YOUR dissatisfaction with the status quo the caused you to seek out a change for the better.

I was YOUR determination to be better that provided the drive to DO SOMETHING....ANYTHING.

It was YOUR decision to choose positive action-oriented people/friends to associate with that gave you the vehicle to reach your goals. (Instead of hanging with those that would hold you back, perhaps inadvertently.)

It was YOUR denial of feelings of fear and personal inability that allowed you to keep trying and face failure head on.

It was YOUR determination to be the the best possible that keeps you going back to improve on the successes already attained.

If it was your parents and siblings that instilled bits and pieces of the above in you while growing up, great. Hopefully those lessons occured during a positive and nurturing childhood. If so, you can give them credit too.

If it was a negative childhood environment that you fought to escape, congrats to YOU again for the success!

I don't mean to give you the big head or ignore the assistance of others. But, I DO think it is important for others reading this to understand who the most responsible person is for their personal success. We all know that we are personally responsible for ourselves, but its good to review just exactly what that means occasionally. And it's good to acknowledge, even to yourself, when you are doing things right.

I work peripherally with female athletes, some of which believe that their success is totally tied up in their coaching team. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Good coaches can refine and build skills, but we cannot create the psyche of a winner, to include drive and determination.

Congrats to YOU!

Great job, girl! I think that's one reason why a lot of us lifters like the strength lifting...because the PR's really help our motivation! :) lol... Seriously, great job and keep us updated on your progress! :)
