no period after competition please advise

Hi to all-I'm new here but have been lurking for awhile. I competed in a bb contest two months ago and my period has not resumed. I normally have started right back up within 3-4 weeks. My stats are: 44yrs,5'6',140@18%. I am very active-Lift 3-4 times per week and do lots of hiking. I am natural (so far). Eat clean, calories around 2500, plenty of protein, efas, lower carbs-mostly good c.carbs and veggies.

To be honest I don't miss not having periods but am concerned with any bad health problems that this might cause. Have enjoyed MS's posts about estrogen but havent quite got a good handle on how all this fits together. Any suggestions?

I have no medical advice, but will say that after my competition I did not have a period for 14 mos.

Bumping it for others

Valerie you might try the blue search button at the top of the page. I know there have been many threads about women, health, and the menses.

I can say that many girls here (spatterson is a example) do not have regular menses and they are quite healthy. Look into these older threads to learn more. There is quite a lot of great information about this area.

And Welcome dear. It is nice to have you! :D :D

Missing periods is very dangerous. It means your estrogen levels are not normal, and this means your body will be losing calcium from your bones. I didn't havce a period for 5 years. My GP(DR) denied it would affect my general health. I had a bone scan as part of a sprts science research project. I found I was half way towards having full blown oestoeoporosis. THhis would mean that a fall from my bicycle or going for a run would result in severe fractures. I now have to take the combined pill everyday - thus giving me the usual estrogen sides as well as boosting my calcium intake with supps.

Please do everything you can to get your periods back - I do not enjoy being on the pill. Sometimes, like me, a woman need s to have a bf of above 22%, before periods return. Don't panic - this means you are a fully fertile and sexy woman. It is still healthy and as I have learnt, being healthy is the most important thing in my life.

The first step is to go to your doc and have all of your hormones measured to find out what's out of balance. A couple of months of missed periods is not abnormal post competition and is not dangerous. But if things don't normalize long term then there could be problems that need intervention. Don't worry about it, but do get a checkup. It is conceiveable that at your age the extreme dieting could have caused premature menopause, but those tests from your doc will prolly rule that out.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I really was hoping MS would respond and yes I will do as she suggested. I did have a bone scan (Dexa) taken last year and it showed normal bone density. I'm more concerned about being put on estrogen and going thru all the bloating, fat gain , etc. I feel great now and don't mind not cycling. If I don't start back up in 30 days or so I'll see my doctor.

I got my period back today...Kind of mixed feelings...:mix:

I'm really happy about it coming since I haven't had my period in six months, but the bloating and cravings I could do without... I had forgotten about them...

But I lost my period due to an AS cycle of 6 weeks, so I can't really compare to you...I think it's pretty common to lose it whem your "on".
