new vw jetta: buy or lease?

i dunno what diesel sells for in the north east; but here in the deep south the increased fuel economy is offset by the increased cost of the fuel. :whatever:

Gotta factor in the increased price for the vehicle too, there's usually an upcharge for the diesel option as well. I'd do the math, at present fuel prices, just to see if getting the TDI option will pay for itself by, say, 75K miles.

I have a program on my comp here at work that can calculate it.

Will the TDI recoup the four-and-a-half grand upcharge in 75K miles or less?

$2.399/gallon for regular, $2.439/gallon for diesel, both at the corner Exxon

Diesel-$1017.06 per year in fuel

$367.16 savings per year in fuel with a diesel.

12 years or 180,000 miles before you're ahead.
