2006-08 VW Jetta: who has one/knows someone who has one?

rnch said:
i had one for a rental the last 3 days...was impressed with it. :)

BUT

i have heard horror stories about vdub's build quality and reliability; espically on models assembled south of the border. :worried:

is their an easy way to tell if a jetta is german or mexican assembled? a key letter or number to look for on the VIN strip, perhaps?

your thoughts/opinions/experiences, pls... :artist:

My wife (who is German) loves VW's and we got a 2007 WV Jetta Wolfsburg Limited Edition w/ power everything, black leather interior etc.. I do not know the specifics, but I remember the sticker saying some of it was made in Mexico. She was bummed with that.

Aside from that it is a wonderful car. We have had zero problems so far. It is comfortable, has a little power and tons of trunk space.

Just some things I do not like: the dealership service is very good but getting an appointment is a pain in the ass. Aside from that I have no other complaints.

yeh, thieves loved them in BMW's in the 80's. they were so easy to steal back then the cars became known as "Break My Window". :lmao:

the interior was the first thing i admired about the jetta...very rich looking but restrained, classy in a quiet refined way...reminds me of the audi interiors that i cannot afford, dammit.

as for price....bmw doesn't have anything close to the price of a jetta.

STILL concerned about quality control and reliability 2 years down the road.... :worried:
Audi/VW are industry benchmarks for interior design. Only problems I've had with the Jetta is the power window on the driver's side coming off the track(the windows seem to be susceptible to freezing, not a worry in the South). I also had a bad computer chip that needed replaced but it was under warranty. I've been driving Jetta's since 2001.

VW Service will f*ck you eight ways 'til tuesday.
They're offering free service packages with their new cars in my area, I had one with my first Jetta in 2001; No service fees until you pass 50k.
