Never done squats or deads

When you guys started putting in squats and deads in your workouts, how much weight did you put on as a result of your addition of those lifts?

Why I 'm asking is, I have never squatted heavy or intense or never even deadlifted before, I'm 22 6' 200, how much weight will I put on as a result of doing those lifts?

Some people say adding squats and deads will put on an easy 10 lbs. if you've never done them before and than add them to your workouts.

Yep it is a phenomena called "the magic ten" or "the phantom ten." It happens mostly to guys who have been lifting for a couple years... and for whatever reason have never done deadlifts or free weight squats. Then one day they add them to their routine and in a very short time they see an almost overnight rock solid 10 lbs gain. I say "almost overnight" because when it happened to me it was litteraly in less than a month. I went from 176lbs to 186lbs... and my veins started bulging as my body fat dropped a small bit at the same time.

The reason that this happens, as it was explained to me, is squating and dead lifting are the most anerobic exercises. (I hope that is the right word.) Essentially they cause you to release more natural testosterone. (Somebody correct me if this was explained incorrectly.)

I have seen this happen many times now over the last 30 years.

Deads and Squats are the two best things you could do in the gym. They will make you really thick, and pack on the muscle. I don't know how you've got by without them all these years! You will really see a difference once you throw them in. In fact your whole routine should involve mostly the basics. Clean and press, dips, bent over barbell rows, deads, squat, chins, etc. Relying too much, or even worse only on the foo foo stuff will never build you a quality body.... give them a try, and let us know how it goes. You won't be sorry.

Oh, and one more thing, start off light, or with just a bar. Proper form is a MUST for both of them, in fact for all exercises. Good luck, and pack on the lbs!
