Need comments on the effectiveness of the set/rep scheme I've been doing.

Since September I've been lifting in sort of a strange manner. As suggested by the teacher (who uses this on his football players):

lowers: 4 sets of 6
upppers: Raise lowers by 30 pounds and do 4 sets of 3.

Now whenever I can do each and every set, I raise my uppers by five. The next time I can do all those, I raise my lowers by five..and so on, and so forth.

I do this for both my squat and bench, but now with the class ending, and I begin to go after school, I can't help but wonder... is there a far superior way to train?

Need some input, thanks.

Are you doing these lower and upper sets in a row? Or are these on different workouts?

I have never heard of anything like that...

The same workout. And I pretty much try to do them as quick as possible, with as little rest in between sets. It adds to that early-fatigue effect once you finally get to uppers.

I had the same reaction when I first heard about this. I was like "huh?" But I guess I'm wondering rather something like this is vastly inferior to a 5x5 type workout, or something.

I am not an authority, but it seems wierd to really want to fatigue the muscle so much before going for the heavy weight?
