I've tried a few things to help with smoking ceasation, the patch, gum, Zyban, dwindling down...this last time was cold turkey with xanax. Grrrr...I'm smoking a little again now but nothing like before. I just couldn't handle it. It had been a week after I quit and I was still having stuff going on...waking up in the middle of the night having to shake it out (had weird feelings in my joints and bones), bad anxiety after I stopped the xanax (couldn't work well and drive safely on xanax), and I was still having some visuals, primarily while driving which is when I smoke the most. Don't know how much of it is in my head vs. physical, so maybe I can work on both for a change with hypnosis AND medical treatment. My friend owns a walk-in-clinic and she said that quite often, when the desire is so strong even after the physical withdrawl is over, that there's often a vitamin deficiency, so I'll talk to the doc there and see what they have to say. My friend is big on homeopathic treatments and natural approaches to issues.
