Morons at the gym (the official thread)...

A while back i was headed in our school weightroom and one of our freshman coaches (he's 27, played D3 college football as a QB and doesn't know a thing about powerlifting.) was spotting a freshman. The freshman was doing a normal squat without a box with 315 loaded on there doing a rep of one and i watched him squat down. He only came down about two inches as the coach shouted, "good squat Rego". I couldn't keep myself from not stepping in. I told him doing one rep of 315 with horrible form wouldn't do shit for him. Then i loaded up about 115 on there and placed a box below the squat rack. I showed him the proper form and how to go down slow and explode up instead of going down fast and going up slow. I told him weight you can control with perfect form is the way to go. The freshman coach gave me a dirty look as i smiled and walked over to get a drink of water. I was laughing and shaking my head.
This shows how stupid even coaches can be.

i used to love watching the highschool football coaches in highschool spot a kid on the team. hed have like 300lbs on the bar and there would be 3 coaches spotting him, one on each side of the bar and one behind him for bench. the kid probably couldnt even do 225 and hes doin 300 with 3 big guys pulling it up off his chest.

I wish I had spotters like that. Then I could put up some respectable numbers.

I had a guy tell me today that "if i didnt go so low on squats that i could probably do a little bit more weight"...i racked the bar, staired at him and seriously thought about hitting him with a plate

Its not even worth explaining to these people is it??

LMFAO! really, I'd pay money to see that.

Wow, no stupidity for over a week! Amazing.

Well I guess I can finally say I've seen it with the frequency that it seems to be brought up here - guys who curl on the squat bar.

"Cheesedick" is the only thing that came to mind tonite. Especially the guy w/ 10 lb plates on each end of the bar.

The other one was the guy doing one arm cable tricep cable extensions and snapping each rep while telling me that they really cut up the tricep after doing overhead extensions and press downs. All I said was - if you snap like that you will be forking out about $800 in rehab for tendonitis.

"Cheesedick".

Nah ... then you wouldn't be able to come here & tell us funny stories if we tell them 'the truth' ... :D

:lmao: YES! lol Did he have a reply to that?!?

This one isn't strictly 'at the gym' but it's somewhat amusing so I thought I'd post it:

This was taken at an actual competition. The clip begins just after the lifter misses his bench at 575 lbs.
Miss
