Morons at the gym (the official thread)...

I had a trainer come up to me and ask that I stop doing them (SLDL from the bench). Problem is they do not have a DL platform anymore - they got rid of it and replaced w/ a few more stairmasters I think - or maybe it was norditrac's - not sure - I just know I miss the DL platform -

If you ever bail on the Step Mill I will loose all faith in you Bunny - lol
^^^

I guess some chick fell back & cracked her head open the 'short' wall/ledge behind the row of Step Mills ... I told the PT's, I am not responsible for the way your Gym it set up, (cardio) equipment can easily be rearranged to avoid such a disaster :)

Faith will never be lost in the Bunny .... :)

well, this doesn't technically count as a moron in the gym but here goes anyway. i usually wear these soccer shorts to the gym. no matter what i wear, i'm always worried about ripping the damn things in the crotch while squatting, doing deads or cleans. (i've got onto my bike on several occasions to rip the crotch in my pants!). and today it happened. luckily i felt it start to rip, stopped and got right up. i managed to complete the workout, very concious of the fact that it may rip some more - did some deads too :p
luckily it wasn't to big so nothing would have showed, besides they were black and i was wearing black undies too :p

Ok. Here is a new one from today. This lady drags her mat over and places it between the two squat racks to do her stretching. Now these racks have enough room between them to rack and unrack your weights and that is about it. Not that this would be acceptible under any circumstances but we have a large just for strecthing not to mention this gym huge anyway. However, she seems to not like using the stretch area for some strange reason. Me and the other guy just walked all over her mat and carried the weight over her head and she just did not get the picture.

Yeah I had a similar thing happen.... I was doing calf raises on the smith and right next to the smith is the Hammer low back row machine. Some guy went and grabbed a incline bench and slid it in between the two machines so he could do his alternating DB bicep curls. I kept having to lean over him and throw 45's on the friggin rack. Of course I only had 325 pounds I had to rack on the thing and he just kind of sat there dodging the plates as I put them on... Apparently he didn't get the idea that he needed to move.

Oh and I didn't post up in here....
The other day I was doing bent over DB row Minding my own business.... Had the headphones on, not making eye contact, just trying to get through my routine. Some guy bends over to get me in my face as I was about to begin my set and starts saying something. I sat the DB down, pulled off my headphone (even made it like it was a big effort and he was annoying me).... And said,"What?" He said,"Are you going to curl that?" I said,"Uhhh no" (55lbs) He said,"I think you could!" I said,"Probably, but I'm not going to try today." He said,"Well I think you should try one." I said,"Uhhh no I have my set routine I'm sticking too." He said,"But look at your arms surely you could do one!" I said,"NOOoooooo." Put my headphone back on and continued to do what I was meant to do.... Should have hit him in the head with it. Seeeee Sometimes yeah you may want to flirt with someone.... But don't screw with their work-out!!! You only piss them off and then you get NO brownie points!

Well, I bashed someone over the head with an Oly bar today.

I'd done my last set of military press and was finishing off with a set of 20 with just the bar. I noticed someone hovering around the Smith which is right next to the rack I was working in but had no reason to give him any of my attention. Now, I weigh around 280; look like Animal from the Muppets; was dressed in a bright purple t-shirt and purple shorts and I was speed-repping overhead presses. I'm pretty sure that I'd have noticed me. Somehow he didn't and walked right under the bar. He seemed to survive. I don't think his head was in use at the time.

Another guy came over and confirmed it was all the kid's fault. He said that if it had been him he'd have put the bar down, smacked him one and told him to be more careful. No pity for the stupid.

OK - not sure if someone has already put this one up but here goes. I am doing some trap work on the standing calf-raise machine. I love this machine for traps as it takes my weak ass grip out of the picture and the weight goes to 450lbs - which is heavy for my traps - anyway, a trainer and his client are watching me and the trainer decides to come over and tell me I am not raising my calfs and if I would drop the weight I would get more benefit - I explained this was a trap exercise and he said that the machine was not intended to be used this way, and that it looked bad for my joints......... WTF...my joints? Anyone can be a PT - that is 100% fact - anyone - by the way this "trainer" by the looks of him is much more comfotable on a cycle than under the rack!

Animal was my favorite muppet, I'd have done a double take if I saw him lifting in my gym for sure.

some people are in a world of their own apparently.. I can't count the number of times I've had people walk right next to me when I've been doing deadlifts. I always figured it was a wanna-be alpha male thing, kind of like 'I'll show him he's not so tough by invading his space when he lifts' but now I realize it's just clue-lessness.

Guy to Moron - "Hey man, how do I do crossovers? It says I should do them in this workout the trainer gave me"

Moron - "Don't do them, wait until you're benching 275-315 before you mess around with stuff like that"

Guy - "Ok, but should I use the high or low pulley to do them"

Moron to guy in the squat rack "Hey man, I can give you a couple tips on getting your form down, let me help you - you'll need to lower the weight though"

10 mins of form teaching

Moron looks over at guy and sees him drinking a coke, talking on his cell phone then does some horrible half reps with even more weight than he had on the bar originally

Guess who the Moron was :)

I hear ya, most of the time it's not worth your time, they don't listen anyway....

true. whats saddest is this little fella from work I tried to train. I taught him to squat, how to deadlift, the correct way to bench and in a couple of weeks he made more progress than he had in months. There was a heavyweight big bastard bb in the gym who confirmed lifting heavy on the basics is the only way to go.. so he had it in stereo.

But of course, it wasn't enough work.. and he wanted to do things his way so now he does one arm reverse grip pushdowns and kickbacks to 'bring out the muscle', lots of cable work to bring out the upper pecs and won't do declines or heavy flat because he's worried at 140 he will get 'bulky' lower pecs and ruin his shape.
