Morons at the gym (the official thread)...

My workout partner went to a chiropracter to have a look at his lower back and the doctor told him that he's "too old to be lifting like that" and should just concentrate on being fit instead of powerlifting." He's only 34. I'm proud to say that yesterday, just 3 or 4 months later, he deadlifted 315 for 3 without a problem.

Sounds like he needs to find a different chiropractor and a massage therapist. I can't stand people that say that kind of ignorant stuff.
You're only as old as you make yourself. I still feel 10 years younger just with a bit more crepitation in the joints.

Damn right! :) You pay these people to help you get back to where you want to be; not to shatter your self-esteem and confidence with deflating words. Honesty is one thing but to tell somebody to 'give it up' is a waste of time and money. He had back pains, not paralysis.

LOL Geesh!

He might have been using the rack because the other benches have uprights that are too high for him. All the flat benches at my gym are like that, guess I have short arms.

I was there in my mid 40s. Unable even to stand for more than 15-20s without lower-back pain. Never give up, never surrender.

Okay so here's the latest one.

I've been training at gyms for at least 18 years, been to ones all over the country, holes in the wall and corporate neon light poser gyms.

So last night I'm training with this kid and we're doing a speed day. This medium sized well built dude, later to find out some WWE heal or something with a big mouth, is doing the old leg press with knee wrap routine, the girl with him was doing the same. Regardless, I guess prior to the main "altercation" (sp who cares) he had a mini one with a snotty girl at the gym. You know the type, her version of a super set or circuit training is to do every friggin leg machine in the gym each set, 10 minutes in between sets and look at you like your a dumbass if you take their weights off or jump in for a set while never knowing that they used the damn thing to begin with.

So I'll give background on the main altercation. Earlier in the evening, I just completed a set of SLDL's with 315, I'm sucking a little wind leaning on the Smith machine and this "trainer" yells down the way asks if I'm using it, sorta like a bitch. I yell back no, no big deal.

This "trainer" chic, who's face could make a train take a dirt road, has this girl doing inclines on the smith. The guy is now doing 3/4 squats with some weight and asks the "trainer" chic if she was using this flat bench that happened to be sitting next to the smith machine, politely. She hesitantly replies "no" in a bitch fashion, I gathered she was using it to sit their water and papers on. The guy notices the tone of her response, starts bitching out loud a little, says "God Damn, I asked politely if you were using the bench, you don't have to act like a BITCH." She snaps back about being called a Bitch and something about getting the manager, he replies "Why don't you go pump another 1000 cc's in your ass and mind your own business."

Meanwhile me and little dude are just watching it all unfold. Funny shit, this cat probably trains all over the damn country and just happened to catch two of the biggest cunts I've ever seen in one gym, both in the same night.

Damn, I can't wait to get outta there and have my own place.

what? and miss stuff like this?!?! :p

oh yea, hardcore chick "trainers". theres a few at my university's rec complex who advise every set be to taken to the point of "pump". when asked how many sets that would take, her response was, "you keep going until you feel the pump. maybe 3 sets, maybe 5 or 6, youll know..."
