No, it is not the same. PMs are saved on Elite's or any boards database in text files. They are far from private.
Secure email, especially HUSH (which is located out of the USA), is much more secure.
Hush stores your data and files on a secure server that is not in the USA and can not be accessed, where as your PMs can be easily read.
Plus, if you are using an Elite account, the mail servers are located overseas and are even more powerful than the servers hushmail uses for its own email accounts.
