Millions can't find family doctor (Ah, The Joys of socialized medicine)

and what do you think 'free' health care will do? lower taxes? LOL!

What do you think an inefficient system that spends 25% on administration (medicare spends 3% on administration) where the rich blow money and the poor go without until they are near death will do, lower healthcare costs?

PS see my earlier argument. 5.5% of GDP is spent on healthcare by the US government. In australia or canada 8-9% of GDP is spent on healthcare total.

However you can opt out in Canada (manny did) and in australia, so government spending is probably closer to 7%. The other 1-2% is probably spent by the private sector.

So for the government spending 5.5% of GDP on healthcare we have a shitty system that represents maybe 1/3 of the people and that the members hate (according to juicdepigtails) when for 7% of government spending of GDP we could have a universal system people could opt out of. And you are against it.

oh, i never said our system is perfect. it isn't by any stretch of the imagination. however, initiating 'free' health care for everyone this country will only throw gasoline and pump pure O2 into and on the fire.

'free' healthcare is cheaper in every country that has it compared to healthcare based on the principle that 'competetion and privitization will lead to the best deal for everyone' like we have.

The real problem with stats:

- we have many physicians but few specialists and that's where the whole mess starts...

No, thats not true.

http://secure.cihi.ca/cihiweb/dispPage.jsp?cw_page=media_09aug2001_e

From 1996 to 2000, the number of specialists increased by 7.4% while the national population rose by 3.5%. This resulted in an increase in the number of specialists per capita, from 90 physicians per 100,000 population in 1996 to 93 in 2000.

93/187 = 49.7% of your 57,803 physicians are specialists. Maybe you have a shortage of certain types of specialists (OB-GYN, oncologists, etc) but all countries have those.

In the US it is around the same. http://www.phg.com/article_a011.htm our numbers may be closer to 60% though.

Canada's great if you like waiting 8 HOURS in the emergency room while every somali immigrant who came to the country for the SOLE purpose of getting all their illnesses treated -- goes in first.

Think i'm joking? Go to many 3rd world countries and there's big ads of immigrating to Canada if you got life-threatening diseases, cancer, aids, etc. Either die in your country or immigrate to canada -- what would YOU do? Welcome to Toronto.

In rural areas -- theyr'e still stuck with 1950's equipment and non-working technology.

It's beyond pathetic. At least in LA, i got healthcare and have access to the BEST and MOST-MODERN technology in the world. When I got shot, or get a disease -- i'm not settling for "okay i'll settle for half-ass medicine cuz it's in the nation's best interest".

I wonder how many Canadians have died cuz the Government wouldn't buy them the more expensive medicine and treatment available in the US. I'd hate to get breast cancer in the tip of newfoundland.

wow, 1.2 million who had trouble finding a regular doctor compared to our 41 million uninsured and 50 million underinsured people. Those poor communist bastards.

Comparing 1.2 million people who don't have a regular doctor and 91 million who don't have a doctor period is a very, very, very bad argument against socialized medicine.

thats what county hospitals are for. just because you see some miracle procedure on tv about how to cure seizures with risky brain surgery doesnt mean that youre entitled to that treatment because you have cable.
