Angry? Not really. I just don't like recent trends in architecture, especially the "McMansion Eclectic" style. While my neighborhood is mostly bungalow, there are some very nice, very large home just a few blocks from here. And they have real cedar shingles, not James Hardie board shingles. All built before The Great Depression (the first one).

The castle parapet chimney thing is astoundingly tacky, man.

On the plus side, looks like you've got casement windows instead of double-hung?

I'm not quite sure what casement windows are, but based on google images I think that's what they are. I don't know architecture.

But I do like the motif the architect used. It has a medieval feel, especially at night. He was very constant throughout the house.

I didn't ask the 105 lb chain smoker about these particular guys, but I did speak to a subcontractor friend today. I figured there would be huge risks associated with getting caught, but apparently there is a very efficient black market for social security numbers and names. They said it wasn't difficult to make sure they're properly documented (from an employer's point of view).

I still hear the odd hammer, and it's pitch black outside. Those guys are winding down but they worked a solid twelve hour (plus fiveish minutes) day.

I remain impressed!

Americans need to be concerned about any culture that can work like that.
