hey all. well im training westside right now and i was wondering, on ME bench day, do u have to use close grip when i max out or does it really matter what grip width i use? thanx
For ME day you usually don't do regular bench press, you do a supplemental exercise that mimics the bench press movement in order to train the bench press. so just use the grip that you were using to work up to the max in the supplemental exercise...
sorry if i read your question wrong. have you done any research on powerlifting and/or westside? or are you just asking about the bench press grip placement in general... for the actual movement?
acually i kno quite abit about westside and ive been doing it for about 2 months. i was jus curious about the grip width that ur supposed to use when u max out whether it be with floor press or board press or any ME exersize for that matter. are u supposed to use close grip or jus normal grip like u would with bench press?

i see. i do them all with normal bench press grip, but then again, i lift raw and don't have any equipment. though i don't know if benching with a shirt would affect ME day training, that is, unless, you did the supplemental exercises while wearing your shirt.

What is normal benh press grip?-How far apart are your hands is what I mean.
The thumbs grip will work well for ME day training.
When you wear a shirt you will go with your hands wider than on ME day.
It is impossible to do supplemental exercises with a shirt because the shirt is way to constricting to do anything other than a heavy bench presses in.
MY normal bench grip is with my pinkies on the power rings. this spacing has seemed to help me the most. I was going much wider before, like both hands a 1/2 inch or so outside the rings, but my triceps weren't contributing enough to the lift i thought, especially since i am raw. so i moved in and i saw an increase (after a while). anyway, that is what works for me.
