I'm lean and lookin good, 29 waist and 10% bf at 39yrs. Is cardio counter-productive if my focus is on bulk during my 2nd cycle. Thought it would be good on calves and ass. Not excessive....maybe 30min 3 times a week. Also not planning a cutting cycle.

When trying to bulk i suggest cutting all cardio from routine, aerobic training should not coincide with resistance training when trying to achieve maximal increase in muscle mass

i'm reading arnolds encyclopedia of bodybuilding now and he says that you should include cardio b/c the calories u burn help u keep your bodyfat levels down or that's more calories that you can consume in the form of valuable protein.

All extra calories synthesize lean tissue, are you trying to keep bf low or are you bulking? A common misnorm is that you can do both, even the most expierienced dietitions can not do this, although it is not impossible it is very difficult. Arnold wrote that encyclopedia as a GENERAL outline for bb, not for specific goals.

I never completely stop cardio, mostly because I don't want to lose my "wind". To me it sucks to gain a lot of size without maintining your system's ability to move all that size around in an athletic way.

I don't believe that it is significantly "counterproductive" to do cardio for say 20-30 minutes 3 times per week even when bulking.

I have tried both ways and feel that if you just cut your normal cardio back a little it works the best. That way you aren't burning too many calories but are still keeping cardio fitness.
