Lower back pain during barbell rows

Recently as my barbell row weight has gone up quite a bit, my lower back is really hurting during and after the set.

Is this most likely a result of a lagging lower back or poor form?

Any advice on how to position yourself when doing rows so your lower back doesnt get alot of stress put on. My deadlifts are before my barbell rows so as u can imagine my lower back is pretty wiped out.

Any feedback would be appreciated

I would have to actually see you doing the exercise to comment on form, but are you keeping tight and pulling smooth and letting your back do the work? A LOT of people use poor form on barbell rows. In my years in the gym I would have to say that probably 90% of the people I see doing these do them incorrectly, and it comes down to ego mostly because, well, it looks cool to stack plates up on a barbell. It is a movement to add thickness, not an explosive lift, if your form is tight, you don't jerk your body to gain momentum, and the pull is totally smooth with no leg drive, and your torso is held in a strict position it is not a form issue. If you address fom and thats not the problem, it could be some form of low back injury/weakness. Again, I don't know you and have never seen you train, but from experience, the fact that you said your weights have recently gone up and you are nopw experiencing pain makes me think form, and it is common with barbell rows, and I never understood, it is a simple, safe, easy, easy exercise that anybody can do, yet people's form goes to hell and it turns into some sort of hybri high pull......anyway,Hope this helps.

i had the same problem when i did em this past monday, but then i looked in the mirror and my form was horrid, my back was arched like mad, i felt lke a jackass. the problem is, i couldnt get the form right.

The key is to make sure your back is flat with your ass out. Also include a slight bend in the knees.

I personally recommend that you keep your back angled between 45 and 70 degrees.

Evaluate your form, because you shouldn't have any negative pain. Barbell rows do in fact has a certain degree of stress on the lower back.

I your case, it sounds like your shoulders are forward and you are hunching over.

Correct this.
