losing your period

rez

New member
has this happened to anyone else? i havent had one in four months, but the doc says its still ok as long as im not pregnant (which i m not). i came off the BC pill in feburary, and havent had a period since.
my doc says it may be dut to weight loss, but i dont think im that underweight..how long is too long without having it?

when i ran cross country in high school i didn't get my period for like 5 months. Also last year, when i lost about 15 lb. and was doing a lot of cardio i didn't have it for about 4 months. It should be alright as long as you're not losing bone density.

When I came off the pill, it was 4-5 months before I had a period. My cycles have been a little inconsistent since I quit OC - range from 35 to 42 days - but I'm also 33, so it may be an age thing.

Hey, I say if the damn thing doesn't want to be with you, it can get lost and stay lost. ;)

i ain't complainin! as long as it not unhealthy, im loving not having it

"Having a period" just means that you shed the endometrium every cycle, it has nothing to do with calcium loss. As long as you're continuing to ovulate, there shouldn't be a decrease of bone mineral.

You know, I haven't skipped a single bloody (ha ha) period since I started getting mine. :( You'd think the old bod would give me a BREAK!

I have never had regular periods, and there was a time when I didn't have one for two years. I had to get on the pill at that time b/c during your period your body releases a hormone that increases the absorption and deposits of calcium. Also, if you have just gotten off the pill it sometimes takes a few months for your body to get used to not being on it. So, I would just wait a few more months and then check back with you doctor to see if you should get a bone scan done. It also could be do to the fact that you said that you have recently lost weight. Also, many athletes don't have regular periods due to the strain on your body. So there are many factors that could be attributing to this. Just wait a bit longer and see what happens. (Well, at least that's my advice/opinion) :)
