Hello all, this is my situation, I just became homeless last week due to me having a crappy roommate that never gave rent to her landlord and I just started working out 3 weeks ago. Now I'm in a shelter and I don't the calorie intake that I need to take get lean but build the muscle mass that I want. I do have access to the gym that I get through my health insurance. So in the shelter I can not bring food in or prepare meals of my own. We get small microwave dinner that they provide for us. What can I do to make sure I can the proper intake to achieve my goal.

If you are close to a Costco or a decent grocery store, you will be able to stick to your diet pretty much 100%.

Costco sells cooked chicken, turkey and roast beef slices in the deli section. They also sell canned chicken breast. There is your meats covered.

Costco also sells both hard boiled eggs and pickled eggs. There is your eggs covered. You can actually drink the egg white cartons from Costco. They are pasteurized so there is no risk of salmonella. It sounds disgusting but it actually has a mild sort of skim milk taste to it. Not bad at all.

For the salmon/fish meals - used canned salmon and canned tuna.

Veggies - stick with veggies that you don't need to cook like celery, carrot sticks, mushrooms etc.

Rice, oatmeal, potatoes - buy minute rice and instant oatmeal. You can cook both of them in the microwave. Same with the potatoes. Just microwave them with a towel around it.

That's pretty much it as far as I can think of. Is there anything missing in your diet that I didn't cover?

When there's a will, there's a way. With a microwave and maybe a small george foreman grill, you can cook pretty much everything on your diet and stick to your diet protocol close to 100%.

Whey and oatmeal shakes are your best friend. I make a whey shake and then add the oats in raw. I let it sit for about 10 minutes and then sort of drink/slurp the shake. It tastes awesome. The oatmeal soaks up the protein powder and it tastes really good. I'll have some almonds/walnuts/cashews etc along with the shake if I want a fat source.

Right now, I suggest you get your life together before you think about dieting. I know it's tempting to do both, but you need to do one thing at a time.
