Long Rest periods

What's the longest rest period you have taken. I have read that every 6months or so its good to take a week off giving the body some time off of course while maintaining a clean diet. Just curious what your guys thoughts are and if you have done it, how did you feel when you got back at it. Me personally I train 5times a week but there are times when I'm training I just don't feel it that day.

I hate taking a week off but I'll do a deload week every 6 or 8 weeks

Kind of hesitant on an entire week, I have taken 2days off back to back and felt freaking amazing the next training session.

I work long early hours so if I'm not in the mood for training I wont go

Took 6 months off after having the Nuss Procedure done on my Pectus Excavatum and then trained for a year, currently on a 1 month break after having problems with my chest.

the longest I ever took off was 2 weeks twice in the past 4 years.

once i was going on vacation and my body was beat up so i let myself rest.

the 2nd was when i was going through a move and had to get settled in and hunt for a new gym

i hate taking time away but no reason to be scared to, shit happens all the time plus the deloading is healthy for you.

For the way I train with high intensity, low volume (DC training), a week long Deload is necessary about once every 8-12 weeks. I would follow the same type of approach with most other routines as well. You will find that taking a week off every now and then will allow you to go back and make bigger gains. Its counterproductive to not take breaks every now and then.

exactly. and nothing wrong with still goin to the gym and doing stretching and cardio only.. or maybe even taking a yoga class

Going to classes is also a good way to meet chicks. I've found they are much more friendly and approachable in the group environment. Gives you a chance to show how sociable you are...get in good with the instructor and you'll kill it :D

That being said....I take a week off when I feel like it. Usually around a vacation of some sorts when a gym won't be accessible or wouldn't have the time.
