I don't know if I would 100% agree...

However, you don't see many (in fact I have never seen any) catholics running around with bibles in their hand reading it 24/7 like some christian peeps.

So why are you disagreeing with my generalized statement regarding
this concept "in the old days" ? I didn't mean this to cover 100% of RC's

Things are changing in the RC church in this regard with younger priests and younger members wanting to read and study themselves.

PS.. catholics are also christians. you probably meant protestants

PS PS..
No, I am not a religious scholar, just an informed person about generalities of the subject.

I wasn't disagreeing. I just didn't know if I would agree. I wasn't around THAT long ago.

I did have fucking bible study shit once a week for fucking forever though.

I'm protestant. =-) I dont have to give up anything for lent.

or you don't choose to.. And the concept of Giving something up like TV or Chocolate is fairly new and IMO not really accurate. Most people did some sort of fasting in the past during lent. Today, fasting is thought of as way crazy to some, but in actuality it may be the concept that modern lent and the giving things up idea was based on.

Being a protestant simply means your brand church doesn't press the issue of lent and sacrifice/reflection, vs it being a Catholic only thing.
It's more a Biblical or Christian thing than just a RC thing.
Much like ash Wednesday and putting ashes on ones forehead.
Some Protestant churches still do this as well today

No, I don't know of any protestant church that does the lent thing. I was raised Baptist, and it was not taught in our church and not recognized at all. We don't do the ashes on the head, no meat on fridays, or the sacrifice during lent. Are you Catholic? Have you even attended protestant churches to know?

Anglicans, Presbyterians and even Lutherans follow some of the same customs.
