Law to build a 3200 km wall along the US border with Mexico!!!

What jobs are they stealing?? If anything, they are doing jobs that many on this board (including those sitting on their asses at home doing nothing) would not want to do.

As much as we bitch about them, we fail to acknowledge one positive that comes from cheap labor costs, low prices.

What economy are they ruining?? Who else is going to clean these $700,000 townhomes and $300,000 condos in the D.C. area? Lets not the forget the many office buildings being built around here. Oh, and the many people that move to this area because of the continous job growth will need nannies for their children.

While I do think our laws should be stonger, this country needs them (and the underground economy that comes from them) just as much as it doesn't want them.

who benefits from the underground economy?

look this is what happens. workers come here and make cash monies, they send part of it back, what percentage i dont know. they dont pay taxes here and they collect welfare, free medical and other benefits like free schooling.

even if hired legally some intentionally make just enough to avoid paying taxes while still collecting all the benefits above.

tell me whats so great about that. when im working my ass off to provide for my family, paying taxes, supporting the school system and paying my higher medical cost because some are getting it for free.

i have no hard data but im willing to bet the farm that you are coming out on the losing end of this just so your rich nieghbors can have cheap house cleaning services.

whats going on is costing you more money in the long run.

First, I stated that our immigration laws should be stronger. Second, the underground economy involves more than just immigrants and the homeless collecting aluminum cans or clogging day labor halls. It includes the working poor getting cash for all forms of recycling: giving blood, selling homemade tamales outside shopping plazas, holding yard sales, doing under-the-table work for friends and family, selling stuff at pawnshops (including EBAY), CD, book and used clothing stores, and even getting tips from restaurants and bars--to name a few. Our country benefits from this. It makes up a significant percentage of our country's GDP. The only agency that has an issue with it is the IRS.

Do you mean Federal Taxes? No, they don't. But when they purchase food, gasoline, cigarettes, liquor, and other goods . . . they are paying taxes and contributing.

That said, I'm willing to bet you are supporting A LOT more lazy ass Americans than you are "supporting" illegal/legal immigrants.

Actually, that's what average homes cost in my area. The rich are not buying those homes.

W/ regard to that wall being built, I'm willing to bet you that there are companies fighting against it. Bush wanted an amnesty program for a reason. There is a better way to manage the problem.

As I stated, they are doing jobs (not just nannies & maids) that Americans don't want. How many Americans you know are going to work in the citrus fields?

Somalians. Sri Lankans.

Open that job up to international competition and even mexicans will be outbid by Africans wiling to work for $2/hr.

Just so you know, most illegals DON'T work in farms. Most work in restaurants, fast food places, strip clubs, all kinds of places everyone else would work at.

Most illegals live in la and nyc. I don't see many farms in la and new york.

UM, I'm from NYC. I think I'm very familiar about immigration and where immigrants work. I was being sarcastic.

Actually, the country opened up the market to Somalians years ago. Ask anyone living in Maine and especially the D.C. area.

well im not gonna justify some behavior by pointing to others. lets not get into circular logic here.

my comments should not be taken out context. what i was talking about is a systematic approach by illegals to circumvent the system.

and no its not only the IRS that has a problem with it. LIKE i said, they are not paying federal taxes and not paying local taxes(property or state tax), other than the measely taxes you mentioned. i pay ALL of the taxes required. i pay higher medical cost, higher property taxes. if we just go to strictly a sales tax then i will be just as excited as you are.

and i dont care what jobs they are working, thats not the point. its about paying the fair share, and thats bottom line for me. i actually could care less if they are illegal or whatever someone wants to label them. just lets make it fair.

I wasn't pointing to others, you asked about the benefits of an underground economy I answered the question.

Circumvent the system??? I'm not going to touch that one. Lets just say, it isn't just illegals going around the system.

Fair? What exactly is a fair share? I don't pay property taxes (not a homeowner yet) or a luxury tax (its a VA thing - I don't own a car), but I do pay Federal and State taxes. Yet I benefit from the services these taxes support . . . does that mean I'm not paying a fair share? I don't understand your logic behind that.

That said, whether you want to acknowledge it or not . . . this country benefits from them just as much as it doesn't want them.

?

well now we have to define rich.

but local real estate prices dont define it. and if someone is paying 300 to 600k for homes and condo's then im saying they are very well off.

good points.

and you forgot houston.

Every time an illegal bypasses the line and jumps the border.

some poor schmuck who's still trying to do it the legal way, and has to wait 12 years to get here -- get spit on.

Who's fighting and marching in the streets for them?

you are pointing to others in the bold text as you did in the previous post about you being sure that i support many more lazy americans than i do illegals.

ok so you pay fed. and state taxes. the only tax you are not paying is property tax. again what i am talking about is the ones that do not pay those taxes plus get free medical.

it is a systematic approach by illegals working for cash or the ones legally paid to make just enough to avoid all of the above. im not understanding why you cant see that. they pay nothing and recieve everything i have to pay for.
