Think about when you are 70. Almost all of us will be believers when we get old. It is a 'time for spirituality'.

Sit a mathematician down to pick apart religious doctrines and stuff conflicts and overlaps all over the place. I would have thought the rules to getting into heaven or what-the-fuck-ever would be more like a mathematical language - at least consistent.

Try writing a philosophy book the size of the Bible and maintain consistency. Then have it be interpreted in different languages over the centuries and see what happens.

I think the Bible has something for everyone. The worlds biggest 'tool box' for the 'mechanics' who know it and sue it.

The part I like is where people use religion and the bible in an effort to tear down others in a lame attempt to divert attention from their own sins. Rather than working on their sins and improving themselves they bash others over their supposed differences.

The bible is the is like gasoline for zealots insecurities. It is very rare that you find people who actually pick up the bible and take those teachings to their heart and use them for themselves and their own families as a blueprint for proper living. And the few who do this you won't find in churches anyway.

I wonder about Revelations though. Some people get vivid interpretations out of it...which are very interesting.

Do you think we are approaching the end of our time? In this life? This decade? This generation?

What I want to know is why hasn't God worked any of those "miracles" he was so fond of performing back then in our times? Let me guess... back then people didn't believe in him, so he did some miracles and they believed? He got lazy then. Well I bet if people stop believing in him today he would have to get off his ass and do a few more to make people start believing again.

If I remember correctly, Mark (a.k.a. "John Mark") is writing largely from Peter's recalled stories. What made the gospel of Mark compelling was how he wrote it -- he puts you "in" the action, using very active-tense writing. Also, he has a very detailed gospel, which also helps put the reader at the scene.

The major portion of the latter part of the new testiment was written by Paul, as letters to various churches. Some letters are *very* specific (i.e. Timothy) whereas other letters are more general-purpose (i.e. Ephesians). That has led people to believe that some of the letters were packaged for duplication and distribution to the early church.

A lot of work went into assembling what is today's New Testiment, but there will always be questions over what should and shouldn't be included.

In the Christian religion, I believe Christ's ascendance into heaven marked the end of God manifesting himself directly on Earth (i.e. burning bushes, voices from heaven, his son walking on earth).

He still does plagues tho -- Hillary Clinton is alive and well.
