It's snowing ... again ...

just got over a big snow storm and last night it snowed again in nyc

sick of it !

Snowiest winter in history! You probably won't see snow like that again in your lifetime there. Enjoy it.

There's been nothing enjoyable about this. All the people who laugh at us or are jealous or whatever probably live in areas that have a few more plows and better planning for snow removal. This has been absolutely miserable and it continues to be. My commute this morning to go five miles took me two hours. It's not even pretty anymore. Just brown dirty icy piles of crap. Digging my car out took four hours and two shovels (one for snow, and a garden shovel for ice). There is no parking in the city - NONE. All the parking is covered by snow piles. Which is fine for work because we have a garage, but not fine for anything else I need to do in town. Java - driving on snowy roads is fine. I've got no issues with that. The problems arise from the issues in the aftermath that places where it snows a lot never have to deal with.

If I never see another accumulation over four inches I'd thank god. Add this bullshit to another reason on my list of "Why I am bailing on this terrible city and moving to the beach."

Hell = being stuck somewhere in rural PA with 2 ft of snow on the ground with the heater turned way down and having to rely on a Grand Voyager to go to town for more witch's brew supplies. (Sorry MM)

Heaven = being snowed in with Nef in an apartment for 3 days but able to walk down to the local corner store to pick up nutrition between sessions. (Sorry Jnegro)

I was at my friends house. We lost power for three days.

The only time it was fun was late friday night when Sarah and I were walking home from our friend's birthday party.....25 blocks in the blizzard (fully covered up in ski gear of course). We got into all kinds of whacky trouble that included but was not limited to poking a secret service guy with a plastic spear, diving into mountains of snow and getting stuck, kicking snow off of shrubbery and having it land on our faces, and creating obcene snow sculptures.

By saturday night I was over it.

Well, that was uncalled for. BTW, 17 miles west of Philly ain't exactly rural PA  Trust me, if this was a rural area I wouldn't frigging hate it half as much as I do.

The Voyager is in an ice crypt, we're using the husband's work vehicle, it's the only thing cleared, and I haven't been outside of the house since Saturday so be nice to me.

The thing with the heater is we have oil heat. It is a 245 gallon tank. Getting anything less than 200 gallons means you pay more per gallon. As of today oil is $2.549 a gallon. You do the math (when I bought this white elephant of a house oil was under $0.70 a gallon). The goal is to get through the season on two tanks of oil, having started with a 3/4 full tank when it got turned on in December. It's an older furnace and for some reason one tank will last more than a month if the thermostat is set at 59. However, set it to the low 60s and that bitch sucks it down like a college girl drinking Jello shots on spring break.

Look, I didn't make the rules, I just frigging live here. Getting a new furnace is on the list of shit to do once the debt is cleared, along with a new roof, a paint job, new outdoor landscaping and a new g'damned house in a decent frigging neighborhood where it never fucking snows.

And I'll have you know my husband finds me a very pleasant person to live with ... mainly because I work a substantial amount of my aggression out on y'all.

Strap a snow shovel on your Voyager and head south until someone ask you what it is used for. That is what my Father did. I have not seen him in years.

If that were financially feasible believe me, it would have been done a long time ago.

You're pulling my leg!! The city comes to your house and clears your sidewalk?! Free of charge?! Get the fuck out!

Yeah, you're responsible to have your sidewalk cleared within 24 hours of the end of a snowstorm (they actually specify the width you need to have cleared). In theory, if you don't have it cleared, you could face a fine. I pay $300 a year higher in taxes than my neighbors for the privelege of living on a corner, and literally have 2/3 more sidewalk to clear. It is also a high visibility corner, the township is all over our asses like stink on shit when we've gone on vacation and the grass grew too high (I hate this township, seriously, it is a vile place and I didn't pick it but I'm stuck here for the immediate future).

Well, I wouldn't call it free....snow removal is part of the city's budget, which of course is paid for with taxes.
