It's snowing ... again ...

musclemom

I Told You So ...
EF VIP
We won't see our minivan until fucking July at this rate. I can't even put out the garbage, there's no where TO put it. I've got 5' long freaking icicles hanging from my roof.

And there goes a salt truck ...

I officially fucking hate the winter. I used to dislike it, now it's full blown hate. The only time snow is good is when you're in school. Then it's fucking awesome. It's pretty good when you're salaried too. But when you freaking work for yourself, and have to shovel this rotten shit, and your joints ache because of all the cold, it SUCKS.

Rant over.

supposed to get snow here again tonight, tomorrow etc

also...lol ...minivan

sorry :)

Ive been in my yard all day with shorts and no shoes on sucks to be you

Trust me, I understand completely. The snow has been an absolute nightmare for me. It has caused so many issues I can't begin to count them. Even being paid when work is cancelled can't make up for things like a three mile drive taking two and a half hours because the city is so completely fucked up from all the unplowed or piled snow.

I take umbrage at anyone who pokes fun at my minivan. I fucking love that minivan, it's a miracle machine (and owned outright). Hell, even our mechanic scratches his head over it.

1. It has 230,000 miles on it.
2. It has it's original/unrebuilt: Engine, transmission and exhaust system.
3. It still gets something in the range of about 22 MPG.

Ah well, at least if I'm trapped in the house with my s/o we spend our time drinking, cooking, playing games, laughing and erm, whatnot because he's emotionally stable and returns my love and trust of him, rather than takes advantage of it (and that's after we've been together for nearly 16 years).

Why do you think I haven't been on the board much since the snow started up here? I've been, uh, busy :p

Are you sure it sucks to be me? :qt:

It snows every year, how soon everyone forgets. No snow in July, it will melt quickly the first time it gets back into the 40s. Though a late March or April snow is always possible from time to time, hehe.

You're in Michigan, of course this wouldn't phase you.

We've had more snow in my part of Pennsylvania in the past four weeks than we've had, cumulatively in the past FOUR YEARS. There are people that still can't get out of their streets in Philadelphia.

It is supreme suckage of a ginormous magnitude.

The worst part is it's impossible to take a decent walk outside: Every fourth house some schmuck has decided he can't/won't/doesn't need to shovel. And then there's the sports who live on a corner and don't think to clear a path to the street  We don't have a driveway, so even doing something as mundane as grocery shopping is a whole procedure.

What brand is it? I've never heard of a minivan living that many miles!

We got a little snow here and it didn't take long to melt.

A 1995 Plymouth Grand Voyager with a 3.0. Very, very few of them last the way ours has ;) Average yearly repairs are usually in the $500 range, if that, usually it's the cost of the inspections, then maybe a few miscellaneous parts (like last year, we needed back tires).

Hubby is super good about staying on top of little maintenance things, fluids and stuff, and he's a gentle driver ... and maybe we've worked more than a little mojo on it, too :verygood:

I've got a story to tell you but I'll send it in PM :qt:

Man I am in Tennessee and it is crazy how 2inches of snow can shut and entire region down. The local public school system has been out of school all last week and now with this new round they have cancelled tomorrow as well. I can wait till summer and boating weather.

It does not snow like this every year. This has been the snowiest winter in DC history, and we're not equipt to deal with it so the removal proccess has been almost nonexistant. Snow piles six feet high aren't going to melt quickly.

MM a bit tipsy tonight? naughty naughty
Jeez, right off the bus straight into Gutterville

No, it's not a "naughty story" it's just something I don't feel like plastering on the board.

Actually I'm still working (thank the gods I'm finally on my last patient). It's virtually impossible to do med. transcription when you're half shot in the ass.

Snowiest winter in history! You probably won't see snow like that again in your lifetime there. Enjoy it.

People are responsible for shovelling the sidewalk where you live? The city is responsible for that around here - they have mini plows that also ice and sand the sidewalks(they take a couple of days to clear them all though after a huge snowstorm)

LOL @ people not knowing how to deal with snow. I guess that I take for granted growing up in the Midwest and knowing how to deal with snow covered roads.

You're pulling my leg!! The city comes to your house and clears your sidewalk?! Free of charge?! Get the fuck out!

Yeah, you're responsible to have your sidewalk cleared within 24 hours of the end of a snowstorm (they actually specify the width you need to have cleared). In theory, if you don't have it cleared, you could face a fine. I pay $300 a year higher in taxes than my neighbors for the privelege of living on a corner, and literally have 2/3 more sidewalk to clear. It is also a high visibility corner, the township is all over our asses like stink on shit when we've gone on vacation and the grass grew too high (I hate this township, seriously, it is a vile place and I didn't pick it but I'm stuck here for the immediate future).

just got over a big snow storm and last night it snowed again in nyc

sick of it !

There's been nothing enjoyable about this. All the people who laugh at us or are jealous or whatever probably live in areas that have a few more plows and better planning for snow removal. This has been absolutely miserable and it continues to be. My commute this morning to go five miles took me two hours. It's not even pretty anymore. Just brown dirty icy piles of crap. Digging my car out took four hours and two shovels (one for snow, and a garden shovel for ice). There is no parking in the city - NONE. All the parking is covered by snow piles. Which is fine for work because we have a garage, but not fine for anything else I need to do in town. Java - driving on snowy roads is fine. I've got no issues with that. The problems arise from the issues in the aftermath that places where it snows a lot never have to deal with.

If I never see another accumulation over four inches I'd thank god. Add this bullshit to another reason on my list of "Why I am bailing on this terrible city and moving to the beach."

Hell = being stuck somewhere in rural PA with 2 ft of snow on the ground with the heater turned way down and having to rely on a Grand Voyager to go to town for more witch's brew supplies. (Sorry MM)

Heaven = being snowed in with Nef in an apartment for 3 days but able to walk down to the local corner store to pick up nutrition between sessions. (Sorry Jnegro)

I was at my friends house. We lost power for three days.

The only time it was fun was late friday night when Sarah and I were walking home from our friend's birthday party.....25 blocks in the blizzard (fully covered up in ski gear of course). We got into all kinds of whacky trouble that included but was not limited to poking a secret service guy with a plastic spear, diving into mountains of snow and getting stuck, kicking snow off of shrubbery and having it land on our faces, and creating obcene snow sculptures.

By saturday night I was over it.

Well, that was uncalled for. BTW, 17 miles west of Philly ain't exactly rural PA  Trust me, if this was a rural area I wouldn't frigging hate it half as much as I do.

The Voyager is in an ice crypt, we're using the husband's work vehicle, it's the only thing cleared, and I haven't been outside of the house since Saturday so be nice to me.

The thing with the heater is we have oil heat. It is a 245 gallon tank. Getting anything less than 200 gallons means you pay more per gallon. As of today oil is $2.549 a gallon. You do the math (when I bought this white elephant of a house oil was under $0.70 a gallon). The goal is to get through the season on two tanks of oil, having started with a 3/4 full tank when it got turned on in December. It's an older furnace and for some reason one tank will last more than a month if the thermostat is set at 59. However, set it to the low 60s and that bitch sucks it down like a college girl drinking Jello shots on spring break.

Look, I didn't make the rules, I just frigging live here. Getting a new furnace is on the list of shit to do once the debt is cleared, along with a new roof, a paint job, new outdoor landscaping and a new g'damned house in a decent frigging neighborhood where it never fucking snows.

And I'll have you know my husband finds me a very pleasant person to live with ... mainly because I work a substantial amount of my aggression out on y'all.

Strap a snow shovel on your Voyager and head south until someone ask you what it is used for. That is what my Father did. I have not seen him in years.

If that were financially feasible believe me, it would have been done a long time ago.

Well, I wouldn't call it free....snow removal is part of the city's budget, which of course is paid for with taxes.
