Is the GI index flawed?

Seriously. For example. Do you eat organic white jasmine rice? I just looked it up and the gi is over 90...crazy! Swolecat says it doesnt matter, but I tend to disagree. Any thoughts? If this is combined with 1/4 jasmine 1/4 brown rice and a red meat + chicken, the gi is null in void???

Very much flawed. It is based on blood glucose response to 50 grams of digestible carbohydratesm using white bread as a base. It is proposed/assumed that low GI foods digest slowly and it is the slow rate of glucose entering the bloodstream which causes the low GI. But, just how a food is prepared for example can change this. And besides, who eats 50 gr. of just one food at a sitting, most of us normally eat mixed meals, for instance GI is and will be affected by other nutrient intake, protein, fat and fiber.

*****edit to the above post, actually just as more thoughts come to me....

The GI is so irrelevant for the most part(diabetics may well do better with it, but still it)...think about it, most any of us cutting would avoid sugar like the plague, as it has a high GI, right? Wrong....it is actually quite low due to the fructose factor, yet we will eat rice cakes or sweet potatoes like no tomorrow, and they are higher.

You must take into consideration that when you combine protein with carbs it will lower the Glycemic Index. So I would say it is slightly flawed by not taking that aspect into consideration.

Yes I eat Jasmine Rice but sparingly and early in the day before a workout.
