Is coscto a good alterantive?

So I started to do alot of shopping at coscto for food, its alot cheaper than most grocery stores and much easier to prepare. For example they have frozen stirfry vegetables for like 10 bucks, a big bag. Now I know its not compeletly fresh but no preservatives are added and its so easy to just throw in a pan and heat with some chicken. The only other alternative is to buy 10 types of veggies at a grocery store which are going to go bad in a few days anyways.

Another thing I started buying htere are their frozen chicken breasts from Tyson. SOO much easier than buying chicken for $5 a pound or whatever at the grocery store.

Also I started bying their packaged deli meats im kinda skeptical of these because there is sodium in them. I know at grocery store that packaged meats are not good for you but the costco ones i believe are just cut up in the back and packaged there on the spot.

So do these things sound healthy and do you have any recomendations?

The only thing I would be concerned about would be the packaged deli meats. I think you're better off getting the real deal.

The only worthwhile foods at Costco are Eggs, Milk, Meat, Propel, Water, and veggies. Everything else there is pretty much junkfood.

I wouldn't buy that frozen tyson chicken, it's loaded with shit. You ever notice the way it seems to dissolve while cooking? You're better off buying the chicken breasts they have in the fresh meat section for a dollar more per pound. as far as the deli meat, it's going to have sodium no matter what. Just drink more water.

be carefull with the frozen chicken breats. some contain over 600mg of Sodium and if you are cutting up, its not good. also they are more processed to increase shelf life so sometimes there are things in there that you may not know about. take a look at the % of meat protein in there, usually it will range from 15-18% only

Costco carries Protein Powder in these huge jugs for like 20.00. I think it was sportsPharma brand

Tne Tyson is stuff, or something frozen, is understandable to have in case of emergencies or laziness... that one day where u wake up really late or the one night u fall asleep really early, sometimes it's good to have something that prepares or microwaves easily if you're like me and go from gym to shower to day job to night job and don't spend a lot of time at the casa. But if you live off that stuff or anticipate it's use you're gonna be in trouble.

Keep a bag in the freezer and forget all about it.

I use that stuff - it's good!!

Rather than the frozen Tyson chicken, buy the fresh breasts for $2.49/lb.....they are individually packaged in packs & sold for 6 breasts in a package - so you only need to take out 1 breast at a time.......

And the frozen broccoli is cheap & good - about $3 for a HUGE bag.....I like the stirfry mix too - it comes with sauce but it packaged separately, so you don't have to use it if you don't want to - it's just veggies, so it's not junk....

I've been using the Sports Pharma protein powder sold at Costco for several years. It's the best value for the money.

I also buy their version of egg beaters, whole eggs, broccoli, asparagus, turkey lunch meat, oatmeal, Uncle Ben's Parboiled rice, apples and other veggies from time to time. I only shop at a regular store to buy small items or hard to find spices to cook with.

I like shopping at CostCo. They have some really good deals, but even more important, they treat their employees well.

See http://reclaimdemocracy.org/articles_2004/costco_employee_benefits_walmart.html and the numerous other articles available on the net. I am a firm believer in supporting companies that treat their employees and their community well.

You should always vote with your dollar. Consider the total cost to you and your community before you buy.

From the above article

Employees covered by company health insurance
Costco 82%
Wal-Mart 48%

Insurance-enrollment waiting periods (for part-time workers)
Costco 6 months
Wal-Mart 2 years

Portion of health-care premium paid by company
Costco 92%
Wal-Mart 66%

Annual worker turnover rate
Costco 24%
Wal-Mart 50%

.
My regular purchases from CostCo include :
fresh, ready to eat carrots, broccoli, and spinach.
Frozen spinach, green beans, mixed vegatables, okra, snow peas
Frozen shrimp (cooked), scallops (raw), fish
Fresh Chicken Breasts, Eggs.

I just looked at a package of Frozen Chicken Breasts that I have in the deep freeze. One breast weight 220g, making it two servings with a total of 540mg sodium, which is almost 1/4 the total recommended daily intake.
