Been to both many times, and I think A-dam is fun the first time due to the novelty of the weed factor...but I think A-Dam is overrated in every other respect.

Lots of interesting stuff to see in Nederland besides the seedy aspects of Amsterdam. Get outside the Rondstadt and see the rest of the country.

I have been two times - both in the winter. It is not so bad. Coffee shops will save the day.

One thing I will warn you about Holland in general. Virtually EVERYONE smokes. If you are sensitive to Cig smoke beware - I had my first asthma attack in 20 yrs the last time I was there. As it is winter, you are inside more and you will take in a large amount of 2nd hand smoke.

Other than that, it is a fantastic place to visit - great architecture, museums, history, beer etc etc.

I have a girlfriend that does everything I need for me and more. The red light district would be interesting to walk through just to say i walked through it but that would be all. I am very interested in seeing everthing I can see in both Amsterdam and Sweden. Museums and what not. Just really getting out and seeing everything I can see.
