How would you train if you were going to be a police officer or corrections officer?

I train with cops... they all train differently... some power lift, others are intto bodybuilding... it depends really... I noticed the S.W.A.T. guys train properly, and with a lot of compound style movements though...

Solid,
Sofa & Thai are on the money. Stay simple and stay fundamental in your preperation for the officer position. Learn the basics of self defense and find a true fighter if you can. Someone who knows the arts and not a "Tiger Schulmans" money making greed. Know what I am saying. Research, research, research. The more you know, the more powerful you will become. Lift as you always have, considering that you do lift with correct form etc....Best of luck and remember what Midwest J said, its YOU that metters. YOU will be in the thick and you need to be ready to take control of situations and stay cool. Good luck.

Just curious on everyones ideas and opinions. I start my first day as a CO in the county jail tomorrow. I am wanting to get out on the road and be a police officer one day but I have to pull my time in the jail first. I am curious as to how you guys would train if this was your job day in and day out, dealing with screwed up convicts and such. What I am asking is what you would concentrate on, or what all would you do to stay in shape, how would you lift, what kind of cardio, etc. I still have to go to the academy and I am in good shape for that, its all pushups and running. But once I get back I was going to cut back on the running(not quit, cut back) and hit the weights harder. What is everyone's idea of the most important aspect of training for this job?

firearms training.

Wow this is an old thread of mine. Thanks for all the advice guys.
I think I have figured out the job by now lol, I appreciate it though.
