How much longer until you can choose the sex of your baby?

Funny that you mention this, but he also says that, yes, he can pretty much create a "designer baby." If you want a baby with blue eyes, he can give it to you. You want a boy, he can do that. It is no longer in the realm of science fiction. I mentioned to him that this would be great technology if we could also create babies with disease resistance or to create clones of endangered species. He was the first scientist to ever clone a human embryo (although it did not survive to become a cloned human) and the first person to ever create an embryo clone of a dead person. Cool stuff. He's an interesting man.

He said that, believe it or not, people may eventually be able to live indefinitely so long as they are not in a traumatic accident, etc. He said that we don't hear about it but research is being done whereby they are able to clone cells of damaged organs, etc, virtually eliminating aging of those organs.

He fascinates me.

Is he married? Why don't you go out w/the guy?

Geeze, I am SUCH a yenta anymore.

I've been to dinner with him a couple of times. He is interesting, certainly.

Well then you can just abandon the child. That is the alternative in those countries.

This conversation just took a major left turn.

Not really. They have little outdoor bassinets so that those who do not want their female children will opt to abandon them as an alternative to infanticide, which is what would happen in the absence of these programs.

So now, what do you think the chances are that these children will ever find their way to a loving, nurturing home when their own parents felt forced to abandon them because the child was "the wrong gender"?

You mean you didn't know that there were many areas in the world that have societies where the economy dictates parents make these decisions?

Sorta makes one view the original question posed from a different vantage point.... or does it? :whatever:

Heather, just give in and date me already, I have a lot going for me...

A: Im not persian
B: Im not persian
C: Im not persian

Do I need to go on? ;p

........... and?

What are the other assessments?
Well, I just met him, and he is already telling me he loves me and wants to buy a house together. It seems awfully fast to be getting that involved, which is freaking me out a bit. He is not classically handsome, but you know me. I'm not really into looks all that much. He wants me to handle some business matters for him, and he has real estate holdings in Greece, Puerto Rico and the US. He is EXTREMELY business savvy and could teach me LOTS, certainly. He has millions upon millions that is invested in various countries and many companies here and abroad. He has teams of lawyers who know how to expense one business against another and know all the ins and outs of tax law in various countries and asset allocation for protection purposes. It all makes my head swim a little, and I AM a lawyer...lol.

He is very sweet and kind and romantic. He always brings flowers or gifts and is very sweet to me. He grew up in Greece very poor, like I grew up. So, he knows what is important in life and to value the things he has, to give back to the world, and to not get a big head about any level of success he may have obtained.

We shall see...

Interesting point of view... to prefer one gender over another based on the games YOU THINK the child will want to play with you.

Bottom line is this: anyone who thinks that one gender will be more desirable or easier to parent than the other should just NOT have kids period. Every child is an individual human being aside from their genitalia. They will bring you different joys and sorrows based on their HUMANITY.

He will be gradually conditioned to enjoy contact sports & outdoorsy stuff! Heck I don't even want a mother for him / them incase she (passively) encourages too many effeminate traits within the boy(s) or encourages them to eat junk food etc by leaving that shit lying about the house. I will micro manage their nutrition, exercise, past times etc. everything!

I am totally for "designer" babies, though with regards to health / performance rather than aesthetic traits (I really don't care what their hair / eye colour is or complexion). Why should my boys be denied the chance to become pilots or serve in the armed forces / police / fire brigade because they're colour blind / short sighted / skin ailments etc. that could have been prevented before they were born, a number of conditions that unfortunately I'm sure I'll pass on.
