Infanticide is a common practise in MANY countries.
I know in China and India female children are aborted and abandoned on a regular basis. Hell, they even have ultrasound/abortion packages. After the procedure the mother demands that the doctor show her the aborted fetus to insure that a male child was not mistakenly aborted.
I am certain this goes on in many parts of the world where those societies are set up to value the lives of female children far less than those of males.
I dont believe in abortion.

You can choose the sex of your child NOW. I have a friend who is an andrologist, and he helps couples do this all the time.75th said:

You can have in vitro fertilization and then just implant the embryo of the sex you prefer.

Now, if you believe that discarding some of the embryos in the petri dish that you can't use is the same as aborting them, I guess you wouldn't do this method, either. However, you can choose the sex of your child this way.

Interesting point of view... to prefer one gender over another based on the games YOU THINK the child will want to play with you.
My sister has 3 children. She always said that she preferred to have all boys, that is until her daughter came along in the middle. She was one stubborn mofo till she was about 3 or so. My sister had much less trouble with her boys than her daughter because, "Boys are simple." And then she realized that as the boys grew, they remained SIMPLE to the point of "DUH." ... then she bit her tongue right quick as her daughter actually became responsible AND reasonable... LOL and has remained that way, course she has already been fully warned about puberty... in which case her boys will REALLY give her a run for her money as they will still be SIMPLE... but now full of testosterone which will render them SIMPLE and HORNY...
Bottom line is this: anyone who thinks that one gender will be more desirable or easier to parent than the other should just NOT have kids period. Every child is an individual human being aside from their genitalia. They will bring you different joys and sorrows based on their HUMANITY.
The countries that I discussed I am not even outraged as for these people their economics dictate their seeming lack of humanity. Actually they are being VERY humane by killing those children before they suffer too much by being brought into the limited life their gender will 100% guarantee.
I do believe (just my .02) for parents in less economically depressed areas of the world to remotely give a shit about gender as opposed to A BABY is sorta disgusting.
But hey, that is just MY .02

Funny that you mention this, but he also says that, yes, he can pretty much create a "designer baby." If you want a baby with blue eyes, he can give it to you. You want a boy, he can do that. It is no longer in the realm of science fiction. I mentioned to him that this would be great technology if we could also create babies with disease resistance or to create clones of endangered species. He was the first scientist to ever clone a human embryo (although it did not survive to become a cloned human) and the first person to ever create an embryo clone of a dead person. Cool stuff.
