i dont think ive really gone more in all the years ive trained more than a week without weights....ive decided to do a 2 week layoff to somewhat detrain. im using coolcolj's theory that when u come off of the 2 week layoff you respond somewhat like a beginner. how many of you people in here do a planned layoff

I do, usually a week between every different lifting cycle/technique, which is about a week off every 6-9 weeks depending on the program I am using.

I just got done a two week lay off. I came back with much more energy, and even more important.....much more motivation!! However, this motivation also killed me. I trained that first week back as if I never took time off. My motivation got the best of me, and I had trouble walking for almost a week due to extreme soreness. I know it will be hard, but take it a little easy when you get back to it.

Wow, I'm surprised after all these years you haven't taken a single long layoff?!!

Well get ready to gain again :)
When your muscles are nice and soft, start very light and ease back, I won't take a lot for it to respond.

Start maybe 60-75% of the last poundages you used and add 5lbs every workout. You will gain size and tiny bit of strength as you work your way back.

I hate layoffs, whether they're enforced or not. I'm starting to use periodisation and realise their importance, so I'm going to have to get used to them and try to enjoy some active recovery!

I always plan to setup a layoff... but when it comes around time to layoff i just don't feel like taking it...
I love to lift... I would feel like a slug taking 2 full weeks off...
I think im gunna force one around new years

I think breaks are a necessity. I take a week off after i switch training programs. Which is usually no longer than 6 to 8 weeks I take a week off.

Then once and a while when I feel the need (loss of motivation, fatigue, or stress) I'll take 2 weeks off.
